whining noise from engine

Alright its kinda hard to explain the noise so I'm gonna try. When in drive the car makes the whine that most Honda's make when you drive in reverse there is no apparent difference in the way the car drives any thoughts as to what it may be????? I think it may be a bearing or something.

I know what you 2 are talking about! I drive a 2002 LX coupe and I've been in the dealership twice for the noice. It's a really high pitch whine that you can clearly hear when you hit 2,500+ rpm. I drive a standard and I'm sure both of you 2 do to. They tightened my belts and said that was the problems bu t that didn't help. It can easily be heard in second gear on or a bit after the 2,500 rpm mark. Over and over all I get from the dealers is its a normal thing and from the tech guys at the dealership that they can't reproduce the sound so they can't fix it. Have you guys found a solution like adding a muffler and cold air intake to muffle or fix the noice?

The car is not in reverese, the car will be in 1st thru 5th gear and at 2,500 rpms you begin to hear the high pitch whine. It's almost like reversing but not similar.

i get a high pitch but very soft whine, this is normal transmission noise... if you've ever owned a sportbike you know what Im talking about, but my civic transmission is much quieter. Is the whine your talking about loud? does the whine stay at a constant pitch or does it change with speed, and does it change with shift or just continue to get higher pitched?

Its more of a constant whine which i think is pretty loud because I can hear it while in the drivers seat. I cannot test it while it is being driven on how loud it actually sounds because I don't have a place to test it. I'm not too worried about it. I figure once I purchace my muffler and cold air intake it'll produce a growl which should drown out the whine.

I hear a similar noise with my I/H/E setup, it is related to engine speed and not transmission speed, it happens when I am stopped and revving in neutral. It is real quiet and sounds almost like I gotta clean my air filter, which I will once winter is over, I am not too worried about it.

Well all I don't know what the sound is in your cars but mine was a bearing in the alternator went and killed the alternator. They replaced it after trying to charge me $65 to just look at my car. The sound in my car was at idle in neutral and gears 1-5 it was VERY loud and didn't stop.

I have had the same problem in my car. I just assumed it was a normal "jap engine" sound. Sounds like someone threw a whistle in my exhaust. I had a similar sound on my last CIVIC. I HOPE IT DOESN'T BECOME SERIOUS.

i got the same thing in my 2k2 auto ex, it sounds like an rc car pr something. i figure its normal, i just thought it was a normal 4 cyl sound, i'm gonna test drive the new 2k3 corolla(i have no life, i do this a lot, with no intentions to buy), i'll see if that makes any sound, cause like i said, i feel it might be some wierd 4 cyl sound.(dont listen to me, i'm dumb)

The sound is starting to annoy me. I am at 8500 miles on my odometer so i'll be taking it in to the dealers to get the maintance done and once again will bring this up to them. Like I said before though, they did notice the problem and said they tightened my timing belt but that didn't work then when i brought it in the next time they said they couldn't replicate the noise but I can always replicate it at exactly 2500 rpms. It doesn't do it before that mark and will get noticably loud. If you push in the clutch the noise goes away. I knows its a losing battle with the service department on trying to get it fixed so If they don't fix it this time I will write Honda a letter explaining my dissatisfaction in their 7th gen models. Anyone put on a Cold Air Intake or any other part which gets rid of the noise or muffles it with a growl? Thanks for your imput.

Heh , well it would not be your timming belt, timming belts have notches in the belt itself as to not slip easily and if it did slip your engine would be toast. Try this , start the car leave in Neutral and Set The E-Brake, pop the hood and listen in the engine compartment for the noise, then reach over and give it some gas on the throttle body and find the noise. I have a 94 accord lx with 108,000miles automatic, never had any problems like that. I had a Intake on it also.

I just noticed this today I have a 2002 lx, manual, 6200 miles on it. I can hear it when I step on the gas even in nuetral,
If you drive in an alley and open both driver and passenger windows. the louder it is, Im sure it has something to do with the
engine or exaust and most likely not the tranny, it sounds like there is something lose a screw or a bearing. if you guys
find out anything pls post
