Car going mad!!! Electrical issues....Help me!!
Car going mad!!! Electrical issues....Help me!!
Hey everyone, I drive a '05 civic... Last week I installed a strup header, and today I did a cai from Injen. The header was a nice fit, and the intake too in a way... but the intake did take some adjustments because just like the header it was made for a '04 coupe...( does look pretty much the same in the bay) But anyways---->>>my problem: After fitting the intake, I started up the car, instantly heard it was gonna need some tuning, could'nt rev past 4,5k
No problem right? no but my right headlight flicks on and off, my right indicator stays on(without blinking) my remote door locking **** wont work properly on the drivers side! And my automatic window thing doesn't work(wich makes the window close or open without holding the switch).....
Goin mad

sounds like a loose ground to me. And I bet its the ground connection right where the filter sits with the Injen CAI. When you installed it, right where the filter sits is a ground connection. When you installed the bottom pipe, in order for it to sit correctly down by the front bumper, it had to be connected to the frame with that bracket that was part of the pipe. And in order to do so you had to remove that ground connection and reinstall it onto that bracket. Check that connection and make sure it is contacting the frame. Otherwise you will have some problems. Wiggle it around on the frame and see if everythin goes back to normal. If it does, that is your problem.
If anything else, check all other connections to see if anything was not hooked back up or you might have hit something in the process.

Thanks a lot. I did re-intstall my ground wires, maybe didn't secure them properly. Like magic, today my car acts normal, except for the window switch! But my ecu really can't cope with the extra air, so I need some hondata bad! Do they even have it for the d16v1? When I have the time, I'll recheck my ground wires...

you dont need a computer upgrade, all you have is an intake. You arent adding that much extra air. If at anything, just reset the ECU and go. You arent running a turbo or nitrous so there is no need for hondata or any computer upgrade. If at all, you added maybe 2-3WHP. The problem doesnt have anything to do with the intake itself. It has to do with a ground wire not hooked back up properly or something you maybe accidentally messed up. An intake shouldnt have a negative effect on the engine. You may lose some power in the power band somewhere, but other then that, it shouldnt cause driveability problems.
And your engine isnt a D16, it is a D17...

no, my engine is a d16...i drive a hatch(ep2).But there's no parts for the d16v1, but its the same block as d17 so many parts fit!
And I'm not a complete dumb-***, I know my problem has nothing to do with the intake itself... By resetting the ecu, will it then adjust fuel mapping for the compensation of increasing the air? no right? I also have cat replacement coming up. Then I want to have it dyno tuned, but I would need some aftermarket management to have it properly tuned right? At the moment my car performes less well with the intake...not excactly the point!

I never said you were a dumbass. But the stuff you are wanting to do and are asking about isnt necessary with an intake. You are wanting to upgrade the ECU which isnt necessary and you now want to dyno tune the car once you have an intake a aftermarket cat installed. that also isnt necessary. You cant dyno tune your car unless you have something to tune it with. But then again, there would be no point. you arent running nitrous, you arent running forced induction, you arent running a bigger lift cam and upgraded valve train with an adjustable cam gear. You arent making a big increase in power. When you have some of those, then it would be wise to tune the engine, but with an intake only, there isnt any point. You arent gaining but a few HP at the most, if even that. And with the CAI, theoretically by the time the denser air makes its way into the TB, it will be hot again. the piping is metal, and once the engine heats up, so will the metal. In theory, Some CAI are a waiste of money. I found this out too. Now resetting the ECU will compensate for the intake, but you really wont see much difference in the way the car runs. It may sound louder at higher RPMs, but thats it. You probably didnt run over 4500K RPMs before, but once you reset it and drive around for a bit, the ECU will reconize the intake and adjust fuel accordingly.
You would be amazed at how many people on this site have installed an intake and have said the exact same thing you did "My car performs less well with an intake". And after installing there OEM intake, there car runs better. I being one of those people. Also with the Injen CAI, you run the risk of hydrolocking the engine if you drive though water. You have to be careful with that intake. I drove though water with it and stalled my engine. Luckily I didnt do any damage, but whats to say the next person wont.
Now talk to gearbox, he has the K&N Intake which is said to be pretty good. Not just the K&N filter, but the whole intake system made for our car. I have no comment on it cause I have never used it.
Now here read this, just by the few responses, you will see that getting an intake is a waiste.

Its the K&N typhoon intake kit people recommend.

I also have intake header exhaust...how ***king long do I have to drive it around for the ecu to figure s*it out? I always go above 4.5k...And I wanted vafcII but it isn't available for my car! e-vtec sucks ***

they say usually takes about 100 miles but the ecu is always calculating stuff as you drive. Most of the fuel curves are learned very early after resetting. Like 5-10 mins maybe.
not to hijack the thread or anything... but in everyones honest opinion, would a intake be worth the money? i found a AEM SRI intake for like 80 bucks... i was gonna get it just because it looks cleaner under the hood....

k&N typhoon gives good torque gains but most intakes only a few hp. I had aem and it sucked. its loud and ricey and causes low end power loss.

...did he say he has an ep2 hatch but an '05? with a d16? 1+1+1 does not equal 3 in this case....letters. chassis and engines..one of them doesn't fit or 2 or all three....
check your grounds....tester @ wal-mart or Radio Shack for like 5 bux....

you'll lose your preset radio thats about it...everything else resets itself automatically..oh and the clock
pull the neg batt terminal...
sorry about the questioning...usually people have where they're from in their info at the top corner of their posts....BTW you're so lucky with all the diff choices for a civic over there...
