I Have a 2001 civic lx... i had it for about 5 months now and i noticed recently when i use the ac or heater after the cars been parked for a bit that it reaks like diry socks or somthing or somthing really bad .... seriously so i took it 2 the dealership and they sprayed disinfectant in the vents? ahahh i dont think it helped...made the car smell like lysol tho .. im serious i dont know if its my car only but it Reakz badly ahahha ne ways yeah take kare dudes!
i dunno about the smell removal, but always run the vent w/o a/c when you park for like 30secs - 1 min, to help clear some of the moisture.....
Welcome to 7thgencivic, might I suggest the removal of the "Slow and the Delerious" quote, its a little

My car does the same thing, when the air conditioner is on it is fine but sometimes when i put on the heater it smells like *** or dirty socks... my friends always complain about that...
I have the same freaking problem with my aircon too. Perhaps we should try as one of the forumers have suggested, which is to run the blower for about 30 seconds before switching off the aircon/ parking the car.
I doubt that would really help, worth to give it a try, them filter's about $60 for the pair. More likely pollen and crap is stuck in your a/c evaporator. A geographical problem as I see it, if you live in the country area. Here in LA, I smell exhaust and diesel fumes, bumper to bumper driving day in and day out.
I know what you mean...I have the smell too.
No, it's not the filter...I have had this problem for quite some time, and pollen filters are not things that are changed monthly. Also, I have not recently plowed through flower fields, and I don't live in the Dust Bowl, so there is not an irregular buildup of pollen/dust in my filters.
I do notice though that the rancid smell is more prevalent when I have only the Recirc. button on (the far left button of the three). I think it does help to turn the AC on.
There is also a cheap way to fix it that I have employed...roll down the window...

Honda's are notorious for "that" smell coming from the heater. We've had Honda's for about 13 years now and every single one has that smell...even my mom's new Acura 3.5RL, its just something with the Honda's...the best thing to do is just crack your window a little bit and the smell will go away in about 5-6 minutes.
