'02 Civic Si/SiR Typhoon Intake Problem

I have a 2002 Civic SiR and over a year ago installed a K&N Typhoon intake system. After install, I noticed a very loud "poping" or backfiring originating from somewhere below the accelerator pedal. In fact I could feel it through the pedal itself. Honda Canada said get rid of the intake and K&N said have another shop check the problem. K&N said I had an leak somewhere that was allowing fresh air into the exhaust system and it was combusting. Two different Honda shops checked out the problem and could not figure out where the "pop" was coming from or why. Both said get rid of the intake.

Anyone else expereince a similar problem? Any solutions? Is the intake system worth the extra punch and sound at the possible expense of future engine problems?

Thanks,

"keep your stick on the ice"

I got a no-name (ractive) short ram from a local honda dealer..they installed it and when i first had it on, for the first couple weeks, it backfired 4 or 5 times..but its been on the better part of a month now, and it hasn't done it in a while...If its occuring quite often, I'd bring it to a local tuner shop with a garage...Im not sure what K&N has for warrenty, but theres obviously something wrong. Did you use any sort of lubricant or adheisive when you installed it, around the fittings?

I didn't use any lubricant around the fittings. Do you suggest one to use? Air may be slipping through these fitment points.
