I am noticing the same prob. Anytime it gets cold around dfw all the noises and squeaks come out. Have you heard any rattles coming from the steering wheel??

It sounds like you have a bad strut. Struts that have a bad seal let moisture into the cartrage. The cartrage is filled with oil, so the moisture condenses and forms water which is heaver than oil so it goes to the bottom of the strut cartrage. When temps. get below freezing this water freezes and blocks the passage for the oil to move from the lower part of the cartrage to the upper part of the cartrage. This is what causes the thud, your strut rod is not able to move properly so other suspension components ie rubber bushings, try to asorb the suspension movement. They can only move a small amount then they bind-up at this point you will feel a pop which is the rubber bushings returning to their normal position. You should have your car checked out by a mechanic or the dealer. Hope this helps.
