Is my clutch not disengaging?

Ok so here's the scoop. My clutch has slowly been dieing. It's not very bad but to the point where if I drop a gear it clearly slips. So the other night I'm getting on the freeway and it won't go into 4th. Now the car drives fine still with clutch if I don't beat on it so this seemed akward.

Now it's difficult to get it into gear, but if the car is off it will go into any gear I want. However, when in second if I take my foot off the brake it pulls the car. The symptoms all say that the clutch is not disengaging completely.

So the question is this: Is the new clutch I'm about to put in going to solve this issue or is something else going on?

As long as you're planning on replacing the throwout bearing with it, I think you should be fine with the replacement plan. It sounds like its on the outs.
When you get it apart look at the clutch hub, the pressure plate springs and the throwout bearing/fork. Make sure they're all ok.

a burned up clutch should not make it harder to physically put it into gear.

If you burned up a clutch with just an sri and a port job, then you probably beat the **** out of it quite often. Maybe speed shifting and/or skipping gears.

pull your tranny apart and check your syncros.

Then why does it go into gear without issue when the car is off?

Ok so here's a real technical question. I have a spare low mileage LX tranny. I have an 03 EX. Now I don't want to use the gears from the LX as they are different, however, can I salvage the syncros and bearings from the LX and put them into my Ex tranny. I have had bearing noise since about 30K on the car. The car has 81K on it now. I don't beat the tranny but I do take it to 5-6K pretty often.

I dont see why not. I would assume that they would be the same. I do know that the bearings out of an older d-series tranny will not work. I am not sure of the synchros though. So i guess you could do some experimenting and tell us what you find out.

Better check with Honda first... call up one dealer and ask for the parts number and price for the syncros on the LX tranny. The call up a different dealer ask them for the part numbers on the '03 EX tranny. make sure to mention the year of the LX, I think some stuff changed between the '03 and '04... I forget what though.

Have you checked or changed the fluid lately?

lol. Oh yeah the fluid was fine but I changed it anyway. Still has the same issue. A close buddy who wrenches for a living still thinks it's the clutch. I'll know by this weekend...

If your clutch isn't disengaging fully, I'd look into getting the pedal adjusted, checking the clutch fluid and making sure the clutch cylinder is working properly.

I doubt a new clutch would fix your disengagement issue, but your disengagement issue will cause excessive wear on your new clutch.
