Brake squeak at 12k miles!!!

when i reverse out from my garage, my breakes squeak until i stop. They never squeak in reverse......does anyone else have this problem?....i love my car and all, but my '91 accord was built better. The first day i got this civic, i thought i had a loose boot in the front right, but the sound just faded away, thank goodness.

damn, seem to have again the same problem... i just hit 17,600 and I noticed a slight slight squeak when i brake to a full stop....with our cars we should be able to spit out 50,000 miles safely, especially with a manual transmission, i tend to use the engine to slow down a lot more...it could just be dust, or could be just breakin in i guess....
i dunno i just hope it dont get worse

the squeaking could mean you need new brake pads, they are designed to make noise to let you know you need new ones

It could also be that your brakes are just a little dusty. If you know of a place where they have an air compressor, just use the compressed air to blow out any dust/dirt from your rotors...

All brakes will squeek eventually, not much you can do about it. Try going to an auto parts store and buying some of the squeek stop stuff and apply it to your pads.
Really you shouldn't use your engine to slow you down. Cheaper to replace pads then engines. I know everyone does it, especially at 100 and you are about to pass up your road.

i had to replace my front brake pads at 17,500. i had a little bit of front brake pad. The guy said that i would have to change my brake pads every 17 to 20 thou and my rear drum every 60 to 80 thou. it cost me 300 bucks just to replace the front brake pads... thats a rip off!!!

if you want better brakes, i would suggest to get some aftermarket performance pads and slotted - crossdrilled rotors in front and change the rear drums to a disc convertion kit. it will last a lot longer, cheaper, and it will increase your stopping distance and decrease your brake wear...

$300 Cant you buy the pads for like $20 bucks and DIY? Not trying to hate on you man but I think whoever did that brake job saw you coming from a mile away!!!!! But about the post...I just hit 16k and mine are squeaking bad. They appear to have plenty of pad left and I cleaned them out and they are still doing it. What to do????
