transmission grinding

hey guys, ive been searching on here, but no one seems to have the same problem, or so i can tell. My tranny is grinding in first and second, maybe other gears too, i really cant tell. its only when i start off, kinda of a wierd whizzing grinding noise ( not super bad). its an 02 lx, boosted with the original cluch. 27,000 miles. any suggestions? i think i might take it to a transmission shop tommorow. also, what is the general price range for replacing the clutch. ( the problem i suspect)

thanks!

k i just took it to a tranny shop. they said it sounded like a throw out bearing. Is that a big job, cost wise? also, while they have it out, is there anything else i should replace? car is a boosted 02 lx with 27000 miles

Well when they do a clutch they will replace the throw out bearing so I would assume if the bearing goes out first they would wanna do the whole thing. Its gonne be expensive for labor unless you DIY. Since ur car is turbo i bet ur clutch is somewhat worn also. Just have the shop do the whole clutch including the throw out bearing.

If it's just the bearing I say screw it, just ride the stock clutch till it goes.

i had this problem.

We figured it was the throw out bearing also, but it ended up being something completely different.

I broke the plastic cage that holds the ball bearings inside the input shaft bearing. In order to check this, you have to completely remove the tranny from the car, split the case, pull out the gears, and check the bearing.

It was only $22 from honda for a new bearing. And luckily, my buddy manages a tranny shop, so i bought him dinner.
