battery or bad starter??
battery or bad starter??
ok here the problem i'm having with my 05 civic ex coupe. when the car is parked for a long time; say like a day or so, i have to crank it two or three times for it to start. after it started and drive around for a little bit, it starts up perfectly. so i'm thinking it is the battery. am i right on this??

i doubt its a starter that new. Make sure the plugs are torqued to 13ft/lbs and in good shape. Check battery, check ground wire connections. When starting the car, leave it in ON position for a few seconds to build fuel pressure, then try and crank it. I'm almost positive it'll start up fine after that.

This sounds kinda like that phantom fuel pump thing that some of us used to have (way back... 01s and 02s). It happened a lot when new then the car broke in and it went away. Honda never could find the issue other than a studder in the system, but if the car sat, especially on an uphill incline, the car would lose line pressure and you'd have to try a few times to get it to turn over. It was intermittent and once you got it running, it went away for a while.
If its cranking at all, then its not the starter. You can always pull a plug and check for spark. Run to AutoZoo with the battery and have them load test it, unless you got a dud it shouldn't the problem either. If it happens all the time, run it up to Honda and see if they can track it down, but none of us ever had it figured out.

definately the battery, the longer you leave your car off the battery will go dead so you will need a jump start and you will be fine.
If you leave your car untouched for days, I would start it up for couple mins just to be on the safe side.
he said when the car is parked for a *long time* so thats normal for a battery to go dead if you leave the car parked for a loooong time..
