Question nothing works when key is out?????

so here's my problem: whenever you take your key out of the ignition to get out of your car, usually the automatic locks work and the dome light comes on when you get out. well for me the dome light and the auto door locks only work when the key is in the ignition. they work just fine when the key is in. i'm not sure if it could be a fuse or if its how i wired up my new system. the only thing funny i did in the wiring is connect my CD player directly to the battery for more power (i have an alpine cda-9835 and thats what they recommend doing). if anyone has any suggestions as to what it could be, hit me up cause i am as confused as i can be. thanks.

I would go back and inspect all work done, If it started happening right after you did the work, I would double check everything done.

Those are items that will need constant power. What year is it ?? I can get the wiring info at the library and get it to you.

First off if the light isnt coming on when you remove the key, check and see if the dome light switch is in the middle position. If it is in the left position, it wont come on.

As for the door locks, mine dont unlock when I take the key out of the ignition. They never have. I think the civics were made that way.

--check on/off switch for the dome light
--check fuse
--check bulb
--OEM door locks never locks itself (unless you have an alarm system that has passive arming feature)

thanks for the help... the dome light switch was not in the middle...

come on now. i am not a retard. i moved the switch to all positions and i checked all fuses associated with the door locks... as a matter of fact, i checked every fuse in my car. as i said before, everything works fine when the car key is in the ON position. by the doors not locking with the key out i meant that as i get out of the door, i hold the handle open and hit the auto door lock to lock the doors when i get out of my car (you know what i mean, the one handed thing. you prolly do it to). they don't lock automatically, just with the switch i push down as i open the door.

CraigW---> my car is a 2001 LX... the wire diagram might help me figure something out

another problem i am having is with my amp. all this stuff was working just fine on this past saturday. i got out of my car at a gas station and got back in and the amp wasn't working. the locks and dome light weren't working before i left but i thought nothing of it. anyway, it seems like no power is going to my amp from the battery. i checked its fuses and made sure all wires from the battery and CD player were hooked up correctly. i have no clue whats going on with this **** but i am fed up. i'm taking it to a stereo place tomorrow to have them check everything out.

Did you check the fuse labelled backup in ur engine bay? its in a black box located on top of ur battery.. check it out.

And something mustve made that fuse blow so check ur connections on ur deck.. make sure none of hte wires are exposed and touching metal (this will cause a short). Also for ur Amp problem, make sure ur remote wire is connected properly as well as ur ground.

same thing happened to me. i think its cuz i short circuited the car wen i installed my deck. left 1 wire unattended by accident... it must have touched a ground on the car n shorted something. after that, wen the key wasnt in the ignition.... doors, lights, turnsignals.... they all didnt work.

i have no idea how 2 fix it i just took it to some autoshop n they did it for me.

srry i dont kno the solution. but i definately feel you on whats goin on with ur car.... haha it happened to me

My dome light doesn't work at all. Bulb is fine and I can't find any blown fuses. Anyone got an idea? Have you got yours fixed yet?

how do you know the bulb is fine? It may look good but be bad. And you need to test the fuse. Even though it looks ok, it could still be blown. Check the voltage on both sides of the fuse. If it is blown, you wont have a reading on one side.

The bulb was bad It LOOKED fine, but it wasn't. I was checking everything again and then I tested the dome light receptacle and it had power. So I replaced the bulb and wa-la.
