wierd sound

Please help!!..01 civic LX manual. its got about 87K miles on it...Its kinda hard to explain but its kinda like a sputtering sound. When i put it in 1st, 2nd and somtimes 3rd gear i kinda hear it in the low rpm ranges but then i guess when my car warms up it goes away. I dont hear the sound when i have it in nuetral and i rev up. it just happens when i drive off....i first started noticing it when i would start the car from a cold start.(sitting overnight then starting it the next day)....i took the car in to honda to get a 80k miles server done on it and i mentioned to them the sound, they thought it might be my valves...after the service it still was there....havnt taken it back since...now today...the sound is there all the time..its gotten a little louder now...but i can only hear it in the low rpm ranges 1-2500k...after that it kinda goes away.....im thinkin an exhust leak....i really hope its not my tranny!!!..please help figure out what the heck is makin that sound.

Does your tach/rpms drop at the same time, like the engine's struggling?
