Clicking sound when parking.

I think every civic I have been in do this. When backing or pulling out after parking I hear a click from the suspersion (front). This has to be a common problem because I hear alot of others do this as I am walking through a parking lot. I know its not a cv shaft, I was told it may be the sway bar, anyone else heard this before?

Is it when you first engage it in reverse, then move?

It's probably your brake pads shifting in its slot when going forward after backing up or when backing up after going forward. This is perfectly normal in the Civic.

Forward and reverse, I can put on my breaks hard, then back up, hit the breaks and it clicks, and vise versa, I have noticed other civics in mall parking lots do the same thing so I know its common to a certain degree, I was just wondering if any one knows how to fix it. It sounds like a piece of junk with the car making a pop sound every time I park, ya know!

For what is worth, I had replaced my oem pads with EBC Greenstuff pads from the TireRack. The clicking noise is completely gone. I think the oem pad has too much play when seated in the caliper bracket. I was told by the dealer technician that all the civics makes the clicking noise.

I believe that, any complaint you say to a Honda dealer they will tell you that all civics do that, lol

The sway bar area is where I have a clicking from. It happens on most turns, usualy from the middle or right or left of the car. Not the struts, not springs, they are all new. I have no freakin clue, but I agree, I hate having a nice car, and people hear a loud click when you turn. So yours happens when hitting the breaks?

In this case they were right. I only took it back to them the first time was because I just bought the car from them for less than a week. They changed the pad clips. The clicking noise went away for a few weeks but came back. When I finally replaced it with the EBC pads myself, I was able to confirm what they said to me. The oem pads is a bit under sized. Maybe Honda was trying to compensate for thermal expansion. Who knows...? But I'm very satisfied with aftermarket pads. I don't think I'll be using oem pads on my Civic again - not to say it is bad. But just my preference.

I had a problem similar to this after my car was lowered and it turned out to be something with the strut. I took it back to the plae that lowered it and it took them 3 tries to figure out the problem and they call the Honda dealership, got the part and fixed it at no charge to me.

I have 40000 on the original pads so I guess when its time to replace them I will try a different brand of pads. Thanks!
