Charcol Canister location?
Hey everyone, I have an 01' civic with a little over 36k miles on it and the charcol canister is leaking and needs to be replaced. I don't want to pay honda since they are a rip, so me and my dad want to replace it. Where exactly is the charcol canister located? Thanks.

Hmmm.... according to the service manual.....
The evap canister is under the car in the back. BUT there are some valves that need to be tested because one could be leaking and NOT the canister. The procedure is too long to post. I hate to say it, but the evap system is so complicated, you may have to let honda look at it. However, crawl under the car first and make sure ALL hoses are tight and in good shape.

Okayyy.... crawled under my car real quick, JUST for you.
The evap canister is in the center of the car right between the gastank and the suspension ...errr.... the part where everyone bolts a brace to.... ummm.... where the rear sway bar goes. Anyway, the canister looks like a canteen with a bunch of valves and hoses attached to it. Sorry, no pics. Hope that helps.

Well first of all I know that the canister is bad because I took my car into Honda under the assumption that it was convered under my extended warranty, but when I found out that it wasn't I had to pay $90 just to have them find the exact problem. They told me that the charcol canister was leaking and the cylinoid had to be replaced. Of course if it is still under warranty, they wouldn't tell me since they are HONDA. When I looked under my limited warranty booklet, it listed everything that was covered under the Federal Emissions warranty and unless it had an 8 yr/80k mile beside it, it was covered only by the 3 yr/36k warranty which I have gone past. Keep in mind though that I live in Houston, if I were in california it would be 3 yr/50k miles. The Evaporative canister did not have the 8/80 by it, so its only 3/36 according to this book.

Try a NICE letter to Honda of America.... maybe a goodwill repair. This system clearly should not fail so soon.
Good luck.

Im going to write Honda then if all of you all say that it is covered. I am looking through the limited warranty information booklet that came with my civic and I don't know which address to send it to. There is an address for Honda Customer Relations Zone:
Manager, Certification and Compliance Division (6405J)
Warranty Claims
Enviromental Protection Agency
Ariel Rios Building
1200 Pennsylvania Ave., N.W.
Washington, D.C. 20460
or
American Honda Motor Co., Inc.
Consumer Affairs
1919 Torrance Blvd.
Torrance, CA 90501-2746
Which one of these do I send my complaint to?
