clutch fluid problem

ok, this is what happened. i put on my turbo, and was going to the muffler shop to get the downpipe made/put on. the clutch pedal was getting weaker so i decided to pull over, but before i get to a parking lot(which was like 100 feet away) my car gets stuck in neutral between shifts, and clutch pedal drops to the floor--lifeless. anyway, i knew there would be no clutch fluid, which there wasnt, but when i tried to put more in--the car wouldnt take it. i opened the bleeder thinkin i had to let air out of line to put more fluid in, but it still wouldnt take it. why wont the clutch take any more fluid---even though it has no fluid?

wat do you mean the car wouldnt take more fluid? is it leaking all of the fluid out?? perhaps your slave cylinder is messed up, its a typical problem when your clutch pedal drops completely to the floor.

i would put the fluid in the resivior and it would not take any of it into the line. yeah, its gotta be a problem with either the master or slave cylinder....

You need 2 people to get the cylinder to "prime" again. Or you need a vacuum brake bleeder. The trapped air will keep the clutch cylinder from pumping. If you don't have a bleeder, get a friend and a wrench. Put fluid into the reservoir, then open the bleed screw and press the clutch down. Now close the bleeder and let the pedal back up. Repeat until the cylinder primes and no more air comes out. Obviously, you must have a leak for it to be empty in the first place, but you should be able to find and fix it.

ok...i can hear the fluid movin around, but the air just stays in--there must be an extreme leak somewhere, or a seal in the master cylinder.

You'd SEE a bad leak, for sure. If it's the master cylinder, look INSIDE the car, above the pedals. At the tranny for the slave cylinder, and check the hose. The cylinders usually don't go bad untill 8-10 years, so I'd suspect the hose, or something that happened while working on the car. Remember, it's hard to prime a clutch cylinder. you are SURE you did it like I told you? Or buy a vaccum bleeder and suck the fluid through all the way to the slave cylinder.

WHOA! That happened fast, then. Make sure you flush everything REAL WELL before you rebuild it.

Simple job, though.
