Rep Power: 295 i need to vent transmission problem
ahh im hatin my civic, yet i miss it, right now its 5 hours away in north carolina
not sure what exactly is the problem but i was at a red light at the bottom of a hill, and the light changed to green i pressed the acclerator and the b*** just revved like i had it in neutral so luckily i was right beside a driveway so i just pulled in.
i call NCSTYLE (Brad) and he's like try all the gears at first none of them worked, then i tried 2nd and it worked so i pulled back onto route 1 and drove up the rest of the hill bout a mile to i-440
and when i got to the top it wouldnt go again so i pulled into this texaco station, they were glarin at me cause i stopped in the middle of the parking lot like a fool, so they came out and started the car it went in reverse for a lil then i called aaa and other people, had to wait for towing which costed me 20 bucks cause i needed a flat bed grrr lowering a car sucks well not really but right now it does.
so they check fluid and ****, thats fine duh of course it is cuase i just got an oil change and they checked it so i get it towed to this place called cottman transmission , this was saturday now its monday and they just looked at it and said its really bad, they have to go internally to find the exact problem they said it could be many but it costs a f**** 389 bucks just for an inspection
so ya i had fun at the southern meet i went to but im so stressed i needed to vent and i had to drive a pos lancer up here from south of the border yesterday
ahhh im done venting time to eat some lunch.

Rep Power: 0 just ask them to replace the tranny and then go to Honda and claim that because of their denial to release a recall due to the faultiness of their first gear in their trannies that they now owe you for the replacement of your tranny

Rep Power: 787 I'm assuming you're out of warrenty then. That really sucks for a new car (only a few years old) to have a tranny go out.

Rep Power: 278 That's the cost of the whole tranny. They are hosing you real good, since they know you are not local. I have rebuilt Auto's before. I can GUARANTEE you that ALL parts to totally overhaul an auto tranny cost about $500 MAX!
That includes ALL friction discs, steels, valves, gaskets, O-rings, etc, etc.
Usually, the valve body develops a problem, something gets stuck or clogged. Then the transmission won't shift. Unless you do burnouts, the clutch packs should still be fine. Unfortunately, unless you understand how an automatic works, the shops will royally give it to you. It's like a mystery box to most people, and always REALLY EXPENSIVE to fix.
I'd bet you they'll flush the valve body and/or replace $100 worth of parts, MAYBE. It'll run 6 monts for sure, so they make their money. If it doesn't, and you tow it all the way back there (god forbid) they'll just tell you that you abused the tranny, and void the warranty.
Sorry I can't help you, but maybe you are a bit more informed now.
Interesting, my 82 Accord tranny ran 151000 miles when I gave the car away. It's STILL running. My record was 268,000 miles on a Jatco automatic from Japan. I then replaced all the clutch packs ($40) and kept on drivin.
Anyway, realize that ANY shop sees autos as EASY MONEY. Beware!

Rep Power: 278 It sucks. It's probably a little fleck of crud that got stuck inside one of the tiny ball valves in the transmission. What REALLY sucks, is that on a FWD transmission you cannot just drop the oil pan and unscrew the valve body to check it. You have to take the whole thing OUT and then apart.
A pain in the a$$, for sure.
