OEM alarm died???

ok, i bought the OEM alarm module from some guy and after using it for a month, it stopped working

when i clicked the keyfob, the lights didn't blink and the horn wouldn't beep if i press the keyfob twice. the keyless entry still worked though.

after i removed the security module, the car worked fine. the lights blink when i lock the car and the horn honks once if i press the lock twice.

is there any easy way to claim waranty on this? i bought the alarm used and i installed it myself(it's a very easy installation. easier than changing a light bulb).

I think the manual that came with the alarm explains whats covered under the warranty. If you dont have the manual perhaps call a couple of dealers and see what they say. I guessing you have to be the original owner and have a sales reciept.. but then again it might not even be covered since its an electrical component. Dunno.. call em.

the problem is that i bought the alarm used

i dont even have all of the original components that came with it...i'm missing the LED, and the screws...

all I have is the security unit itself...

when the lights dont blink, does the horn still beep when you lock the doors?
if it doesnt but the keyless entry still works i think theres a way to fix it. if its the actual alarm from honda, and not just the keyless entry system that the civic EX comes, then it should be like my mom's CRV. you gotta turn the key take it out and put it in and all this other stuff in a certain order to get it working again.
just tell me if its the actual alarm and i'll try to help you out further if it is.

ok, the horn does not sound when i double click teh remote

also, the parking lights wont blink

however, if i remove the alarm module, the keyless entry system works the way it's supposed to. the parking lights will blink and the horn will honk if i double click the remote...also, if i open the trunk without first disarming the alarm, the horn will not go off either.

the security control unit's part number is
08E51-S5D-1M0-02

anyways, i've already narrowed it down to the security control unit. i just need to find out if the unit itself is dead or maybe it's stuck in something like "valet mode". i purchased the alarm used and it's been in my car for a couple months until it died yesterday. since i installed it myself and the unit is used, i dont think it'll be easy to get honda dealers to replace it, right?

valet mode is where you can use your remote to lock the doors but not honk the horn or arm the alarm. if its in this mode then u need to do the steps to turn ur alarm back on so that it honks and is armed. right now ur car is not armed

yeah, i was wondering if it could be in valet mode but i dont remember inserting the key/ removing it many times to make it go into valet mode...

i've never used valet mode before...do the parking lights flash if i put it into valet mode?

ok, i found the manual for the alarm and tried the procedure for disabling "Valet" mode.

alarm works fine now but now i'm wondering howTF did it get into valet mode in the first place? i'm almost sure i did not insert/remove the key 3 times within 3 secconds.

is it possible to put the car into valet mode using the key fob?

believe me, it sometimes goes nuts and goes into the valet mode by itself. its done so many times before on my mom's car and it gets annoying, but one time her alarm unit actually stopped working so she had to get it replaced.
