Worse than before
Well, I went and picked up my baby from the dealership today. They said they put ALL NEW GUTS in it. Now it's all screwed up. It felt stiff when I testdrove it, they said "it's normal, it'll get better after you drive it some". Well, it got worse. I went to Sonic and when I went to back up and then go to first I couldn't move the shifter into first. The side-to-side movement was real hard to move. I thought I was going to break the shifter. That's how hard it was to move. I called them back and they said that they're closing up for the day. I'll have to wait till Monday. I did talk to the service manager. He said to bring it back down on Monday. I think I'm going to ask them to replace the entire transmission. Boy am I MAD.
Well, it was jumping out of 2nd gear occationally. I took the car to them, showed them the TSB I pulled off of this site and they test drove it. I was told they were going to replace the 2nd gear syncro. Then when I went to pick it up, I was told they replaced all of the gears and syncros ( I guess all the parts on the main and counter shafts). I asked if they needed the TSB to look at when I took them the car the first time, but they said they didn't. I'm just wondering what could be wrong. I have a $70 service manual (about 2 inches thick). I got to looking in it to try to see what they could have done to cause this. I think the problem is in the shift forks. 5th and reverse has two separate forks that slide together and held by a bolt. I bet the two forks have slid apart causing it to screw up after I come out of reverse and try to go to a forward gear, but I'm no "Honda Technition". This would make sense because I can mess with the shifter after it screws up and I can get it back to where it shifts normal in the forward gears, but when I go to reverse, it messes up again.
Actually that's a pretty good guess.
But the problem with most dealers is that they never listen to customers... they assume all customers are idiots, or they're too proud to have a customer tell them what to do.
But regardless, you have no choice but to take the car back to them. Tell them the exact problem, let them test drive it and show them the pages from your Helms manual.

Well, I got to the dealership and the tranny was acting fine. They testdrove it and it didn't mess up. I asked them to do an alignment and after they finished, I went out to leave and it jammed up again. The BIG DOG came out and testdrove it with the mechanic who worked on it. They came back and gave me a loaner car. They're going to tear it back down. I hope they get it right this time.
