Well I dropped my car off at honda last night. The problem happened friday while I was driving from my friend's house. I was on the highway going to a high school football game. I was stopped in a little traffic. Traffic started moving and I went to shift into first, and no first. I couldnt put it into gear. It was as if someone was pushing the gear stick back as I was pushing it forward. So I had to drive for a mile or so starting in second gear. Yes, I know, starting in second will start premature wear on the clutch, but i really didnt have too much of a choice. I talked to honda and they arent sure what the problem is. I just had my 40,000 mile check-up at honda thursday. I do have the warrenty, so nothing is coming out of my pocket. They are going to call me today to tell me what the problem is and how long it will take to fix it. Has anyone else had this happen to them? I searched, but nothing came up.

Your shift linkage bolt is coming out. This is the bolt located in the tranny.
It will make 1st sticky and then all of a sudden...no gears!!! Honda
sells a kit to replace this, but your better off having a mechanic put the
bolt all the way back through the shift linkage and puting some lock-tite on the threads.
If it were a synchro, if you shift into gear at higher prms and quickly say 4,500 you
will hear a grunt grind sound. if you shift slowly, you will not hear the sound.
Thats a good way to test if it is a synchro.
Problem solved

Sorry it took so long. I got my car back tuesday. Honda said it was the first gear bushing that went out. He said its very uncommon for that to happen, but every now and then one or two cars will have that happen. The car shifts awsome. It shifts better than when I first got it. I took the revo off and then put it back on after I got it back from honda. It was a pain in the @ss, but at least it was something easy.
I am having the same issue but with my 2nd gear. When I put in 2nd and start to release the clutch it pops out, if I try to put it in gear it just grinds. Took it to honda they said it will cost $500 to tear it apart I wont have to pay that if the part that isnt working is under warrenty. They are calling me later today to tell me what is the problem.
minime, from what ive seen on the forums after searching about that problem, whats happening to your car has happened to many people. Its honda's problem, dont let them make you pay for it. Is your car new?
no I have 47,000 miles and I talked to them today and all they can tell me is that they have to send a adjuster and that takes a day WTF? So tomorrow this "adjuster" is supposed to come and look at the clutch and then they might have to order the part which will take another day then a whole day just to put it back together....I am getting a little pissed and if at the end they try to make me pay for it oohhh nnooooo....
talked to honda today and they said it is a bent shift fork and the teeth on the gear were messed up. they said the adjuster was there and took alot of pictures, but they wont know if they will cover it till tomorrow. they better not try to screw me on this.
I asked honda what isnt covered in my warrenty and they told me abuse of the transmission or not getting the regular maintenance done on it. but I dont of any maintenance to do on the transmission with only 47,000 miles on it.
Then they tell me that even if they do cover it they still have to wait to even order the parts, so it is going to even take longer to get my car back. If they come back and say that it is under warrenty then I can get a rental car finally....

Thats BS. What mods do you have done to the trasmission? ( short shifter, etc.) Your transmission is covered under the extended warrenty. My second gear popped out a few times, but nothing too bad that honda saw. Ask them what they mean by regular maintance. Do you take the car in every 10K miles? Honda changes the transmission fluid at 40K mile check-up. They cant really say its abuse until you brought your car in a few times and the same problem was found.
Talked to them again today they have denied the claim. They said that I have aftermarket parts on my car which void the vehicle warrenty. Rims, Intake, Header, Exhaust, just one of these mods will void the warrenty. Those are all my mods no SS nothing to do with the tranny. Now I owe honda $500 just because they looked at the tranny. BS Why did they service my car before when I had the rims on and intake?
Now I have to try to get them to refund me my warrenty and use that to get my tranny fixed. F*** Honda, when I first brought the car in they should have said hey your rims void your warrenty so any work that is done isn't covered. oh you have a exhaust and intake too, no I didnt get anything like that....

You need to bring the what ever law to them, and tell them they have to prove that those mods caused that to happen. I brought my car in the day before to get the 40k mile check-up. I have rims, header, air filter, exhaust, and revo ss. They didnt tell me anything. When my bushing went out I pulled my short shifter out and put the stock one back in. Brought the car in and they took it. They found the problem and told me what it was and it would take this long to fix and no comments about aftermarket parts. When I got the car back I asked them if a short shifter, if I wanted to install one, would cause that bushing to wear out like that. They told me no and if I put one in, just to take it out before I take it to them again.
p.s. They also like my car a lot. I get lots of comments from them and sales people when I bring my car it for service. I do get them to change my oil and stuff. My dad wants me to bring it to them for everything. So, thats what I do.

OK still tring to get them to do something, Honda Care pretty much wont listen to anything that I have to say. Asked the dealer how much it would cost to fix they gave me a price of over $3000. I am pretty much stuck right now so any suggestions would help..

Ya, thats true.
Minime: Try looking in a juck/salvage yard for what you need. Its not the greatest answer, but it will be cheaper for you. Did you talk to them about the law stating aftermarket parts? Try a different dealer.

what they are sayin is that the aftermarket parts increased horsepower which put more force against the tranny or some BS like that. I am going to try to see if they will just rebuild it for me and I will put it in myself. But I they things have been going I dont think they will just rebuild it. I found A brand new tranny the CVT and everything and they wanted a little over $1300. I just might do that..

I really dont think the aftermarket parts can produce that much horsepower. Well, good luck in finding the parts you need. Try this website: www.car-parts.com Maybe it will help.
