intermittent instrument cluster gauges failure + climate control issues
Hello all,
I have a Honda Civic Lx 2006 162k miles
I’ve had a persisting issue with my instrument cluster and gauges not working (speedometer, rpm, abs and break dash lights) as well as my climate control, when it’s in this stage of not coming on it does not engage the ac compressor.
shop replaced the wiring behind the radio and dash (said was old and corroded) which fixed the problem for about a day or two until I was driving and the dash shuts off and ac no longer blows cold. In order to get it to work for a short period I hit the top of the dash and everything comes back to life for a few seconds or minutes
took it back to the shop and they said they couldn’t “see” any problems so they added more insulation around the connections but I’m not sure if they just checked behind the radio or pulled out the instrument cluster as well.
I don’t believe it’s the fuses otherwise it wouldn’t work intermittently and not just work or turn on at all.
I saw a similar issue (see below) and got the alternator replaced as autozone said the charging system was bad and failing but the problem still persists. Battery is good
previous owner was told it was due to a failing pcm but I cannot afford the dealership replacing it for me for $1,000 (it doesn’t quite make sense to me why it would work otherwise when I beat the dash)
I would open the dash and check the connections myself but seems like a hassle and don’t want to make matters worse by not being sure what to look for.
