1.8 Coil Pack Junkie
1.8 Coil Pack Junkie
Hello All, I'm new here. I have a 2009 Civic 1.8 which has been having misfire issues for over 3 months now, each time I fix whatever I find causing the misfire it will Run Great for about a week and then it ends up having the same exact symptoms. I've been through 9 coil packs now, a PCV Valve and It's collapsed vacuum hose I replaced, New NGK Plat plugs, Oil & Filter Change & Air Filter Change, EGR Valve, Throttlebody Cleaning but it still needs to be re-calibrated, But I can't figure out why in the world it keeps burning out Coils every week or two and is always a different cylinder. Can anyone help possibly knowing what the main problem may be?

Re: 1.8 Coil Pack Junkie
Were the misfires on all 4 cylinders? If not, a quick check would be to swap coil packs around and see if the misfire follows the coil pack. If it doesn't, you know the coil packs are good
Re: 1.8 Coil Pack Junkie
So you all better understand the problem my misfires have been random multiple, I've had to replace coils on all cylinders like musical misfires and each cylinder taking its own turn not firing. Yes my plugs are iridium NGK, the brand coil packs ended up being all Duralast currently but they were mismatched for a few weeks also one was I believe Continental, or atleast I thought, I had gotten a set of used OEM ones also, I had one NGK pack as well. When I would make the repair needed the car would run great for roughly a week and then slowly go back to the misfires and eventually ending up going into limp mode leaving me crawling it down a shoulder doing 15mph until it built up speed after 2 minutes. I just had to do a coil pack this past week leaving them all being Duralast, yes I know Autozone brand can't be a great option but when you don't have the time or transportation to get anything better we tend to work with what we have available to us. Now I did look into a PCV valve also which was slightly gunked up but I found the Hose connected to it was completely collapsed. I replaced the 2 and again although a different repair it made the car run like new for a week again, I did also run a bottle of injector cleaning fuel additive into the tank, once I had to fill up again that's when it slowly started missing again. Now this past week it's been missing pretty bad. Lastnight I filled my tank with premium Fuel and put in another bottle of fuel additive/cleaner. Now it's running great again and it smoothed out just a few miles down the road after I left the gas station. Now I'm thinking something with the fuel system is causing all this. Perhaps a clogged Sock/Strainer or filter in the gas tank, or even clogged injectors? Maybe the whole fuel system but I'll probably start with the pump assembly/sending unit, and if it continues then move on to injectors. Or would it be better to just have a professional Injection cleaning done to it? This car has 235k miles on it, very clean, no rust and was one owner before me so I'd like to hang onto it if I can,not to mention it will not be paid off for about another 8 months or so.
Re: 1.8 Coil Pack Junkie
Definitely not just a bad tank of fuel, this problem has been going on for 4 or 5 months now . So unless regular fuel is just bad altogether anymore nomatter where you gas up a bad tank of fuel m was most definitely not the problem. Basically using this forum was to see if anyone else has experienced this type of persistent issue and could provide any pointers otherwise I guess it just something I'll just have to keep dealing with until I figure it out because I do not believe in paying expensive labor costs and part price hikes at a dealer. I used to be a technician myself, although many yrs ago I still have a great bit of knowledge. I just never ran into this type of ongoing problem.
