Arrow Rattle noise from Strut/Rear Deck (2015)

Anyone has a clue how to fix rattle noise from rear Strut/Deck on a new Civic 2015?

I have made a video that clearly demonstrate the rattle noise from the Deck and also from the Trunk:

The car was new, the problem started 4 months after purchase, very low mileage, no Sub woofers, no accidents, just normal usage.

Now after 8 months, 50 hours or work, replacing numerous parts, the Honda Dealer has exhausted its resources and we are stuck with Honda's Headquarter's policies...

If you know how to fix this please let me know!!!

Thanks.

Go to a different dealer or call Hondas customer service hotline?

Re: Rattle noise from Strut/Rear Deck (2015)

Thanks ezone, I did call there twice:

Honda Auto, M/C, P/E & Marine Customer Relations 180 Honda Blvd Markham, ON L6C 0H9
Toll Free: 1-888-9-HONDA-9 (1-888-946-6329)
Hours: 8:00 am to 7:30 pm Mon to Fri (EST)

They said they do not have authority over the Dealer, investigation is in progress, not much can be done until engineers figure out a resolution. That is why I call upon this forum to find a solution and tell them how to fix it. There must be someone that already found a solution.

I believe starting over with another Dealer would end up in the same hands at "Honda Canada" headquarters. Moreover the current Dealer has the most excellent service reviews.

Re: Rattle noise from Strut/Rear Deck (2015)

Does Canada have anything like 'Lemon Law', as we do in the states?

In my car, the board that covers the spare tire makes a rattle noise sometimes when going over bumps.......
.

You could try removing every last thing from the trunk (spare tire and tools too) remove that board and give it a test drive?

Re: Rattle noise from Strut/Rear Deck (2015)

I did it, Honda did it too, drove naked, nothing in the trunk at all.
They trimmed the rear deck, removed the side airbag...
They always point back to:
1-suspension, but they replaced all parts.
2-linkages, but they replaced all parts.
3-frame, hard to replace

Canada's Lemon Law:
https://www.ic.gc.ca/eic/site/oca-bc...g/ca02324.html

I will investigate the eligibility to submit a request to:
Canadian Motor Vehicle Arbitration Plan (CAMVAP)
http://www.camvap.ca/arbitration/agreement/#4

Thank you for the suggestion.

Re: Rattle noise from Strut/Rear Deck (2015)

Here is an additional video demonstrating the rattle noise.

There are 3 basic conditions on how to reproduce the rattle noise problem:

1-Cold Temperature
Between -5C and +15C, outside of this range the rattle diminishes down to subtle levels, the temperature element shows that there is a metal part that contracts (Cold) / expands (Heat), the rattle disappears when the vehicle is either too cold or too hot.

2-Low Speed
Between 1KM/h and 25KM/h, faster speeds diminishes the rattle down to subtle levels.

3-Small Bumps
Small road bumps and cracks, bigger bumps won’t make the rattle louder.

At this time, the car is being sent to Honda Canada for investigation.

Ideas, chasing sounds can be tricky and deceiving as to their source. Properly tighten rear shocks, rear speakers mounted tightly, the actual truck hinge mechanism, exhaust based on your reporting changes in temperature. Mounting of 3rd brake light. So did they determine and fix the issue?

Re: Rattle noise from Strut/Rear Deck (2015)

Update… “Honda Canada” called me yesterday saying that they “Fixed and improved the situation”, I asked did you fix it or did you improve it? I got an evasive response. They refused to tell me what parts were changed or what was actually done. The car has been in Honda Canada’s hand for 30 days, they expect to give it back to me in 2 weeks.

The car was new, 7 months old, it had only 3500 KM on it when I reported the problem to Honda.
I told them I was very disappointed about their service so far, lack of information, slow response time, it took 9 months to get to this point and I don’t feel being taken care of.
They said they will attempt to regain my faith in Honda, I sincerely don’t know how they can do that.

Re: Rattle noise from Strut/Rear Deck (2015)

UPDATE…
I got my car back from ‘Honda’s Canadian Corporate Headquarters’ near Toronto, the car had to be traveled back and forth on a flatbed truck, that is over 1300 Kilometers.
Their report states that the problem was fixed.

Unfortunately, this is false, the rattle noise is exactly the same, nothing changed.
I sent them a new sound clip (MP3) which sounds exactly like the “Part2” video above.
In comparison, the courtesy vehicle (Honda Civic 2015) they provided me for 6-7 weeks had no rattle noise issue at all.

They replied by saying that they will contact me next week to arrange a meeting with their Engineer/Technician…

Where is Honda’s commitment to quality?!

I asked for a full “BuyBack” and compensation.

“Honda, the power of dreams…” !?!!

Re: Rattle noise from Strut/Rear Deck (2015)

to arrange a meeting with their Engineer/Technician…
Did you ever demonstrate your noise to the people that took your car, just so everyone involved knows exactly what the issue really is and how to make it happen?

Make sure you do so before they take the car this time.
No recordings, no videos. Take them for a ride and make it happen.

Re: Rattle noise from Strut/Rear Deck (2015)

Hi ezone,

"Did you ever demonstrate.."

Yes, I made 2 videos, so that everyone hears the same thing.
I demonstrated the rattle to the dealer's service manager, he heard it clearly.
When the car was sent to Honda's corporate HQ, I made it clear that 3 conditions were required for the rattle to occur, 1-Temperature, 2-Low speed, 3-Small bumps (detailed earlier) I sent that information thru an email.

I tried to talk to all the technicians that were involved (dealer and corporate), I succeeded once for the 1st dealer tech, all other attempts were denied.
Honda Canada promised, that the corporate engineer/technician would contact me to discuss specific details, that never occurred.
I tried questioning the "Senior Customer Mediation Specialist" (Level 3) he only provided a subset of technical information.
I also asked if they were able to reproduce the problem, I got an evasive answer.

There is literally a 'Firewall' between Honda Canada and the customer when things get down to technical details, my experience was "Access Denied".

I expect that the next move will be to talk to the corporate engineer/technician next week, wait until he comes down to the dealer, give him a ride, see what they missed, so the story continues...

So far that's 10 months of fighting for "The power of dreams"
