Check engine light auto-reset

2007 Civic LX got flooded during a bad rain storm. It flagged a CEL code of P0497 (bad purge valve) so I replaced it. Later on, as in a day or so, it threw a P2422 (bad vent valve) so I replaced that. The day after that it threw the same P2422 code so I bench tested the valves and they were good. At that point I suspected the evap canister as the flood was deep enough to submerge the entire canister. So, here is my question:
After replacing the canister, will it be necessary to reset the codes manually or will the vehicle sense that everything is A-OK and turn off the CEL automatically? I'd rather not have to go through the whole process of testing for all codes after the entire ECU has been reset.
Thank you in advance.

Re: Check engine light auto-reset

It takes a while for it to do the tests for evap codes.
i would just reset it with a scanner or disconnect the battery

Re: Check engine light auto-reset

Does that imply that the computer readiness will ocuure faster than having to wait for only one or two evap tests?

It will show ready for everything but evap fairly quickly. Evap might take a week

Re: Check engine light auto-reset

A week? I plan on taking it for a 30 mile trip on the highway and then 30-45 mph through the city area. Do you still think that would take a week?

Re: Check engine light auto-reset

It has to do with fuel tank levels.
Are you trying to pass an emissions test? You're typically allowed one or two not ready monitors.

Re: Check engine light auto-reset

So your jurisdiction will tell you what is needed for a pass.
If you're allowed one or two not readys, reset the computer, and then drive the car with a full tank of gas until you have the bare minimum required to pass. Then bring it to the test center. Hopefully you have drive in, no appointment needed test centers. I've had several cars pass with evap issues by doing this.

Re: Check engine light auto-reset

Thanks for the reply. I have yet to get the canister replaced. I'll get back when I get my findings.
