Rough Idle/No Start

Build: 2008 Civic 1.8L

Hey all,

Just swapped a badly overheated engine with a JDM engine that I was told ran when pulled. I've gone through and connected up everything on the engine, the image below is where I am at. Just using plain DI water for now in the coolant and new oil + filter as well.

When I got everything configured I stared the engine up, she idled for a half second and then dropped below 400 rpm and died. I attempted a couple more times with a little bit of throttle and could hold her at ~1500 rpm with the idle dipping about 100 rpm every second or so (Rough idle), every time once I released the throttle it would die the same way as the first. One thing I did notice was a pretty big white cloud while running it which made me think head gasket. I did my own test to make sure and all cylinders had pretty good compression between 155-160 psig, so I doubt it could be that but let me know I yall disagree. I was about to disassemble to investigate further and when pulling the vacuum line pictured below coolant came pouring out of the stem until I put the line back on.

I don't know if I routed something incorrectly or this points towards a component being failed internally but I can see this explaining the white smoke in the exhaust. Are there any further investigation or root causes you guys can think of? I don't wanna push anything cause that vacuum line also manifolds to the top of the valve cover meaning I could be shooting coolant into that as well.

Thanks again

Re: Rough Idle/No Start

That is a coolant line, not a vacuum line. It runs to the throttle body.

Any fault codes?

Re: Rough Idle/No Start

No fault codes, I originally had some on the throttle body cause it came with the JDM engine but when I swapped it to the original engines throttle body the codes went away.

i have something Similar like your case ,
my engine also has idle issues.. i have also the 1.8 Type S with 140.000 , no other problems
but when dipping the Clutch from second gear for example to stop on a redlight my rpm drops down to 500, and not even one second latee it idle perfectly about 730rpm..

also sometimes right at the first rev when turn on the Engine rpm drops down to 500 and does exactly the same as i mention with the Clutch
