2011 Civic LX Pings in cold weather
2011 Civic LX Pings in cold weather
We have a 2011 Civic LX auto with 80k miles. For the past two winters, the engine pings significantly in the 1500 - 2000 rpm/25-30 mph range when the outside temperature is less than (roughly) 50 degrees. The car has been to two shops and various parts have been replaced (plugs, wires, mass air flow, fuel injectors, ignition coils, EGR valve, both O2 sensors, air filters). We have also tried various additives and a fuel injector cleaning process. We have tried various brands and grades/octane of gasoline. This only happens in cold weather and does NOT matter if the engine is cold or warmed up. Computer is not showing any codes. The car is maintained well.

Does it seem to run okay? Are you sure the engine is actually knocking and it isn't something else? If it were knocking I would expect to see a fault.

Re: 2011 Civic LX Pings in cold weather
Thanks for the replies. I have also had two shops look into it and both agree it is pinging. Shop #1 replaced numerous parts - originally claiming a faulty MAFS, but after two days and a few hundred $$, they could not find the source. Shop #2 claims no codes came up and did a carbon service and recommended frequent use of top end cleaner/lube. The pinging is pretty noticeable between 1500 - 2000 rpms and lower speeds, but only in cold weather.
