Salt and Rust in Engine Bay
Salt and Rust in Engine Bay
Hey I just moved down south from the north and brought with me and engine bay with salt stains, and turning rusty all over even on my un-cheap high temp black coated kamikaze header. Any good tips on cleaning and removing some or most of the salt and rust? Im glad it wont see a northern winter this year. Poor thing. Its an 02 with 65K miles and has seen 3 nasty winters. I want my car lookin good!

With that HUGE hole through the drivers side wheel well area.... It does not take long for the engine bay to get dirty IMO. I have to do limited driving on a gravel road and I have sand and dust in just a short time on my 05. I have not cleaned mine yet but need to.

I wonder if taking a brillo pad to my header would be a good way to take off the rust, with the help of some rust remover. I think im gunna try that, then just use soap and water to take off the salt and dirt. Is it a good idea to spray a hose in the engine bay? I know i should prolly cover my air filter and battery with some plastic or something.

I wouldn't use a brillo pad, your gonna scratch everything up with that, i would use a towel or something with the rust remover first, let the rust remover sit for a just a min to actually penatrate.
use a citrus-based degreaser in your engine bay. hose off. dry as much as you can with a microfiber, and let air dry in the sun/run it for 5 minutes while you clean up.
try a brillow pad on the rust, but it's rust, it always seems to come back
