clay question...

sorry for beating the dead horse...

but after i wash my car, do i have to dry it before going over it with a claybar or can i just fill up my bucket with soap and water and then clay it from there (or should i use the quick detailer?)

either way i will still have to rinse off the quick detailer or soap after i clay right?

i'm going to clay my car for the first time soon, and i just want to clear some confusion up

i clay and wash my car at the same time.. its best to do a quick wash first to get the loose dirt and other things off the paint first. then go over it with the clay.

yup wash it first, then while its still wet just keep the clay lubed up in soapy solution and clay. Its alot cheaper than QD, but it will work just as well to dry the car and then clay with qd. Its just kinda one of those whatever floats your boat things. Both ways work just about the same.

Be sure to keep a fresh side of clay and plenty of lube. U dont want micro-scratches in the paint. You'd have to bust out the Pc with some polish to get those out. Clay is also an awesome bug remover. OOOOO and if u drop the clay, throw it out. I did it and was very hard to just toss it ... but is it really worth risking scratching the crap out ur car. I suggest doing this in the shade also. The high heat and direct sunlight can cause the lube to evaporate quickly and u might get some scratches like that. Aight thats all my advice on claying. GOod luck, ur going to love the smooth as glass feel. You'll be feeling ur hood for days to come.

yea I just clayed my car today along with applying paint cleaner, polish and wax which took about 10 hours, but worth it. Dont rub hard with the clay bar, lightly going back and forth will do. You will feel it taking contaminents out, thern it will get smooth.

so if i dry after washing it, and then decide to go qd+clay route, do i need to rinse it off to get the qd residue off and then dry again?

no you dont need to rinse it off, all you need to do is spray the detail stuff on there, use the bar, then wipe it off. But do small sections at a time.

Use long strokes so the momentum of the clay removes the crap and not the pressure applied by ur hands. Somehting i remember hearing somewhere
