clay bar a white car

ooh i got clay bar elbow. 3 hrs it took me with the mothers clay bar (its a POS clay bar). and the clay bar was dead by the time i got to the last part (rear bumper). yeah i kneaded it and all that stuff. every little minescule speck that was on the paint now is gone though. no more rail dust, road chips. oh if u only had a white car then you would understand how much crap is in your paint.

I feel ya man. I detail cars and I would have to say that the two worst colors to detail are black and white. Black being because everything shows in the paint and white because you see all the dirt, you cant hide it like on a silver car.

Use them after you wash the car thoroughly....piece of clay along with some solution that is provided when u buy the clay bar that lifts all the bonded dirt and contaminant particles. Makes the paint smooth again...kind of like deep cleansing for your paint....follow up with surface prep then polish then a good coat of wax....you can find clay bars in just about every auto store in the section where car cleaning supplies are...

can i just wash , then use the clay bar and go striaght to waxing?
does the clay bar remove the original layer of wax on the car?

Well, it is a lot of work, but well worth it. You can wax after the clay bar, because the clay bar strips the wax, so it is important to wax after using it. You get such better results if you go thru the steps though...

gong throw all those steps is just to long, there should be a quicker way to do it.

Clay bar is something you do once or twice a year to take care of the pollutants that get on the car - you don't do it every time you wax, but when you do it, it improves the shine and gets rid of all those pesky flecks in your surface...as was said before, it removes bonded crap to your paint, as well as paint overspray if you have any...

Just got my Clay Magic at Autozone for 10.00 - can't wait to try it! The Meguiar's one wasn't too bad, but I have a feeling I can remove a heck of a lot more this time around...

I got the same one and I think it did a pretty good job...pretty affordable too...thats true, you don't wanna do it all the time you wash, like the box says...just once in a while.

Tarik: If you don't wanna spend that much time on your paint, that is your perogative. IMO, the more time you put into it, the longer the shine will last and the more durable the finish will be...esp if you don't keep your car in a garage...

Unfortunately I have a 97 - And though the owner kept the car in really good condition, I doubt he even knew what a clay bar was...so you might say I waited about 5 years to do it lol

I've heard people doing it in cycles, like before and after winter...You might as well give it a try so you at least know how it all goes...but it's not complicated

I just have to say that the clay bar is like my best friend next to the rubbing compound and wax. I use Meguiars everything, so I guess maybe I'm a bit biased, but I really think their claybar is one of the best I've used. It takes me about 4 hours to do everything, but it is well worth it.

At the detail shop that i work at, on REALLY bad white cars we use a terry cloth and comet cleaner to wash the car. You then need to buff the car. It completely turns it around and almost looks new.

You may want to try this if your white car gets too bad.

doh! man ive done that before when i was in japan i used comet and water on my 89 toyota carina (white car) because it was real dirty and stained. needless to say after i did it the clear coat was gone. and to get it to shine again it took about 5 coats of wax. what can i say i was 18 learned my lesson.

Thats the reason for buffing the car after the cleaning, and rewaxing.

haha what i meant was those little rocks that come off of the road, kicked up by other cars that gets stuck in your paint. very small, you can feel them though. i dont know why it works it just works.
