how to get oil smell out?

a while a go i changed my oil and put the used oil in my trunk and when i was going to kragen to dump it, some of the oil spilled and went through the carpet and into the wood/carboard thing. ive washed and cleaned the carpet to get the smell out, but its still in the cardboard thing. and it stinks up my car. anyone have any ideas on what i can do?
