05 lx a1 to ex a2 swap questions
Okay so first off.
O recently purchased a completely rust free 2005 lx 5speed with a d17a1 non vtec for dirt cheap with only 163,xxx miles. When i test drove it, i immediately noticed a terrible misfire which was pretty obvious as the car is obd2 so the cel flashes.
I got it home, did some diagnostics, cyl2 is the culprit, replaced the plug- cyl2 plug black(rest white), replaced the coil, replaced the injector.. Sprayed some carb cleaner around the intake manifold gasket, no leak.. Finally faced my fears and did a compression test. Reads 30 psi on cyl2.
Im gonna assume either the rings are shot in the cylinder, it dropped a valve or very bad valve seals..
Either way, im picking up a d17a2 with harness, ecu, engine cradle, a spare trans, full factory exhaust, cat ect.. That ran, drove and passed emissions when pulled from a car that got wrecked. Has about 150,xxx miles on the whole swap.
MY QUESTION IS!! IM SWAPPING THE WHOLE ENGINE,TRANS,HARNESS, ECU, EXHAUST, ECT...
AM I GONNA KICK ANY SECURITY ISSUES????
I only really ever messed around with 2000 and older civics..
And i know these 01-05 have a chipped key... And a little flashy green key light on the dash..

Your asking “X” but I am thinking “Y”
To answer X, yes you will need to have the ECU programmed to accept your key no matter what.
You also might need to replace the sensor ring on the ignition switch to one that works with that ECU.
My “Y” would be if it’s simply a bent / burnt valve you could likely repair / replace the head for soooo much less cost and effort.
In my imagination, the previous owner never changed the timing belt, it finally snapped and they replaced it only to then find out the engine was “ruined” and dumped it cheap.
Bent valves seldom ruin the engine, and frequently they don’t even ruin the head.
As a “Z” I see that there are JDM importers even in cheese land, while I have doubts all JDM engines are less than 50k miles, they surely are less than 150k..
