Seat belt issue

Several years ago I removed the driver and passenger seat belts to install harnesses and cross bar. I’m in the process of putting the car back to stock. In attempt of reinstalling the factory seat belts I noticed the belt has retracted all the way in and is now locked and will not pull out. How can this be reversed? I don’t see where the ratchet lock is located and do not want to disassemble without some direction. Anyone have any suggestions?

It would be at the base of the B Pillar.

What would be at the base of the B pillar? I know that’s where you mount the assembly. I have it completely removed from the vehicle. The prob is the belt had fully retracted inside the assembly and is locked. You can’t pull it out to reinstall it into the vehicle. I’m trying to figure out how to release the internal lock mechanism inside the assembly to pull the belt out enough to bolt it to the B pillar

"I don’t see where the ratchet lock is located" - I was referring to the retractor would be located at the base of the B pillar under the cover. You already have this removed.

Maybe you need a new seatbelt as there appears to be a part that is a one time use? Check out this thread:

okay thx. This whole thing has been super frustrating. I can’t find any info on how to release the internal lock to unwind it. I’m afraid I’ll have to separate the case but run the risk of completely messing it up. Thx for your help

Re: Seat belt issue

I did that once with my rear seats in my 2002. Man that was a hassle to get that thing unlocked. I ended up finding the ratcheting mechanism and shoving a screwdriver in there to disengage it. It was a while ago, but i remember it being under a lot of spring pressure and took some elbow grease to do so.

Luckily for me, it was the center rear seat belt, and didn't use it very much, but I did test that it still locked when you yanked it and pulled freely when you didn't

man I tried poking a small screwdriver, pick, steel shim, anything I could find to try and find the ratchet. I can’t find where the lock is. I don’t want to send the belts off to get restored bc they’re still armed and isn’t necessary but I may have too. Totally sux

Re: Seat belt issue

Update: got the belts to release. They are angle sensitive which I knew abt however apparently they’re SUPER angle sensitive. When I finally found the angle it was effortless. Thx everyone for your input on this matter!
