if you get into a bad enough accident, all seatbelts, now-a-days, contain something like a bullet. basically its a cartridge that explodes causing your seat belts to lock upon impact. its a safety thing. long story short, you'll have to get new seat belts.

Re: crashed my civic and the seatbelts locked.

^seat belts are covered under a lifetime warranty that ensures they are free from defects and work properly. they are not covered if you wreck and engage the pretensioners.

Re: crashed my civic and the seatbelts locked.

If the pretensioners went off you would have an SRS light afterward.

And yes, you will need new belt assemblies that won't be covered by warr.

YOu can unscrew that cylinder and your seat belt will retract again. It should be similar on your civic as well.

Re: crashed my civic and the seatbelts locked.

no warranty if you get into a crash! lol need to replace the belt, it cannot be fixed by playing with it or your next accident you wont be as lucky.

Re: crashed my civic and the seatbelts locked.

Yeah, I think it would just be best to go buy a new one! It would stink to accidently do a lil step wrong in redoing your old seatbelt and get hurt!

Re: crashed my civic and the seatbelts locked.

Once that cylinder goes off in an accident, it cannot be used anymore and your seat belt will be stuck. However If you just need to buckle up you can remove the cylinder and your seat belt will work again.
