repair question: wheel bearing

repair question: wheel bearing
How would you know if you had messed up a rear wheel bearing as opposed to a bushing or something.
If I do have a busted bearing how should I approach the service manager at my dealership to get him to
replace it under warranty?( because I know he's going to try to act like there is nothing wrong with the car.)
