Control Arm Bushings Urgent or Not?
Control Arm Bushings Urgent or Not?
Hello,
My stock civic needs another control arm bushing replacement it seems only 5 years after the last time it was replaced. I live in San Jose, CA and do not drive an excessive amount but I guess this can happen. My question is how long can I get away with this issue and what danger am I in driving with the existing issue? Right now it just rattles when going over every small bump in the road and is quite annoying. There is also some squeaking after the car has been driven longer than say 10-15 minutes but I think that is related to the shocks where were also replaced when the bushings were done. The ball-joint was replaced during all of this as well. Also, is it common for the bushings to need this frequent a replacement? The shop I am going to go to only replaces the entire control arm. I tried to replace the bushings myself one time and it became a disaster with me being unable to remove the stuck ball joint. Two weeks and hours later I called a mobile mechanic. Now I am in an apartment and do not have space to work on a vehicle.

it will last until it breaks.
Seriously.
and when it happens, could be ugly. no control until it stops
which arms are you talking about?

I am more less wondering what collateral damage a bad bushing can cause or is it more less just a less comfortable ride. I imagine it absorbs smaller shocks.

I am assuming it's the compliance bushing.
use the proper tools, but you will need space for a breaker bar.

Re: Control Arm Bushings Urgent or Not?
If the control arm bushing completely rips the arm won't go flying, there's still a bolt through the middle. It will cause noises going over bumps, through your alignment out, increase wear on the tires, and likely some instability when driving.
