Knocking sound from front end over bumps.

I replaced front struts and made no difference. I cannot seem to mimic sound by bouncing front end up and down. I tried jacking up car and looking for play in front end. Put bar under wheel but everything seemed tight. I had car alignment done after replacing struts and they never mentioned any front end issues to me. I did notice I have a bad front motor mount and have one on order. Could this cause a knocking sound over bumps. I have no vibration issues and no noise when shifting out of park. I can power brake the car and it stays quiet. Anybody have any ideas. Thanks

Control arm bushings at the front of the lower arms, they tear and allow the LCA to contact the subframe

Swaybar links, swaybar bushings

Loose hardware from any work done

Re: Knocking sound from front end over bumps.

i recently had the same issue, mine turned out to be the sway bar end links,

jack the car up and crawl under (support car properly on jackstands)

grab the ends of your sway bar firmly right beside the end link (check one end at a time), now rapidly push up and down using alot of force, if your weak you may need to use both hands

if you hear a knocking noise they are shot, you shouldnt hear any noise at all,

in addition to what ezone said, could also be lower ball joints,

knocking noises in the front end can end up being dangerous, i would suggest getting it fixed ASAP

My lower control arm bushings are shot. Clunking is control arm banging against the frame. It's a $8 part but it looks like you need a press to replace it. I can get 2 aftermarket arms for $66 on ebay. Looks like that is the route I'm going to take. Thanks for the help!!

FYI, the lower ball joints can be a B to remove from the lower control arm taper, use a good ball joint remover tool or plan on replacing them if they are OEM.

The OEM lower ball joints did not have a retaining C-clip on the back and needed to be replaced on mine anyways but I had to cut one off with a body grinder after a broken tool, excessive heat and beatings could not loosen the taper.

Gotta love salt.
