Suspension Creaking Noise
Suspension Creaking Noise
What's up everyone?
Ok, just recently, a creaking noise started coming from the front right side of my car. I checked it out last night and it seemed to be coming from the suspension.
I can only hear it when I'm driving slow. When I speed up it seems to go away, or maybe I just can't hear it over the road noise, because it's not very loud.
But yea, that's pretty much it. I'm running on completely stock suspension, and I live in Canada, so it's relatively cold at the moment.
Any ideas?

Re: Suspension Creaking Noise
LCA bushings, ball joint, strut mount (top), swaybar ends or bushings, sub-frame bushings, or it could just be because of the cold making all the rubber on your car shrink. See if you can hear it by bouncing the front of the car, that will at least tell you whether it's the top or bottom of the suspension.
*NOTE: If you replace parts on one side of the suspension replace the other side also as it puts more pressure on those parts and it's only a matter of time before they go too.

Re: Suspension Creaking Noise
If it's really that quiet then it might even be something as simple as a bolt that needs to be tightened, otherwise i'd suspect LCA bushings.
Re: Suspension Creaking Noise
Thanks guys.
I can't hear it when I bounce the car. It's only present when I'm driving at a really slow speed, like just rolling into a parking spot.
But I'll take a look at all of those possibilities, thank you!

Update.
K so the noise is still there, and I've checked all of the bushings and the springs and I can't find where it's coming from!!!! This is killing me haha!
It's only when the car is rolling at slow speeds, and I can also rock the car by lifting up on the wheel well and I'll hear it. It legit sounds like an old rocking chair, that creaking noise. And I can't seem to figure out what's causing it. I doubt it's anything crucial, as all of the bushings are fine and nothing is loose, but yea what could it be??

If it's just the one side you should be ok replacing just that side. It's actually pretty easy to change those.
1. Mark one of the bolts on top so you know which hole to put it back in. Then unbolt the 3 top bolts.
2. Unbolt the knuckle from the strut.
3. GENTLY pry down on the whole assembly and the strut will practically fall out.

Re: Suspension Creaking Noise
I know this is an old thread, and I wasnt going to create a new one because this is EXACTLY what my girlfriends car is doing. Did you ever figure out what it was? That sound is driving us both crazy!!!
Thanks
Thanks
Re: Suspension Creaking Noise
You should of created your own thread what is it doing creaking over bumps? Try some penetrating oil on your top strut rubbers. Its temporary but ultimately you will need to change the top rubber bushings on the shock all together.
Re: Suspension Creaking Noise
Creaks while going over bumps, low speeds, and pulling into a driveway/parking spot. Its not a consistent sound, just a few creaks here and there. She said she hit a pot hole the other day, and thats when the sound started. Its coming from the front right.

Re: Suspension Creaking Noise
if its the front, it could be an LCA bushing problem. or even a squeaky front sway bar bushing that needs lube.
Re: Suspension Creaking Noise
I recently came upon this thread convinced that I was experiencing the same issue in a 2008 Civic Hybrid. There was a creaking noise coming from the front of my car that was most noticeable at slow speeds and over bumps, which went away at around 25mph.
I was about to take my car to the shop when I decided to take a look for myself. When I crouched down to look under the car, I saw that part of the plastic shield that protects the bottom of the vehicle was sitting on the ground. When driving, it must have been bouncing up and down on the pavement.
A quick visit to my local and friendly oil change shop and a few plastic clips was all it took to fix the issue. Perhaps they didn’t reattach the shield properly after the last oil change, or maybe a few came loose over time. In any case, I was in and out in 5 minutes and they didn’t charge me at all.
Hope this helps someone else experiencing the same problem.
