2004 civic here with almost 87,000km. I get a squeaking noise as soon as I release the brake pedal. Squeaking's being happening for almost 6 months now.. starting to get a little annoying. I changed the front brake pads a week ago didn't help. It seems like the noise is coming from some sort of mechanical pivot. With the car turned off, I can still hear the squeak as I release the brake pedal, until I lose pressure on the pedal (car turned off). Any ideas what it could be?

is it coming from outside or inside? if outside, its usually the rear drums (cable) that need to be lubed. if inside, just spray some silicone lube on the pedal assembly (cover the pedal so you dont get any on the rubber part and you foot slips).

Try moving the parking brake up and down slightly and see if the noise is still happening. It is very common for the rear shoes to develop this noise. It comes from where the shoes metal protrusions are rubbing against the back plate. I lubed mine and it was quite for a couple of hours and then returned.

The rear shoes will last 120k miles or more. I tried cleaning mine with brake cleaner and it did not solve the noise, so I worked some grease onto the backing plate where the shoes make contact. That is certainly the source of my noise. Maybe someone can suggest a method to apply the grease to the area (other than removing the shoes)

the shop did mine over a year ago (just a standard brake check) and the noise never came back. they said they lubed the actual park brake cable. i kinda liked the noise and miss it lol. everytime i pull the ebrake up and down it would squeak.
