BMXA Loud squealing noise

#1 Never go to Merced Ca AAMCO.

They allegedly rebuilt this transmission 18 months ago. It lasted 15 years and 350k miles before they worked on it and 14 miles after the first time they worked on it, then 18 months after they worked on it a second time. We knew it was just a matter of time as it was very plain they did a very sloppy job but that's another topic. Goto https://www.yelp.com/user_details?us...QzmMTZpSEsayAw if you want to read more and see pics.

2005 Civic Sedan VP. Fluid is full and looks good but smells burnt. As I said it was supposedly rebuilt 18 months ago. The trans has been working fine since.

So, MIL comes on on the way home. She continues to drive another 30 minutes down the freeway with no issues. Once she stops at the end of the off-ramp, the car won't move. It gets towed home.

I pull a P0741 'Torque Converter Clutch Circuit Performance or Stuck Off' code from it. So I pull the solenoid and test it with an ohm meter. Manual says it should measure 12 - 25 ohms. Bullshit, a new one read 0 ohms.

So I test it on the battery, it clicks but it's pretty weak so I go buy a new one, $50. I test it, ( 0 ohms like I said) it clicks loud and strong. I put the new one in, hook up the battery and fire it up. I move it through all the gears and everything feels normal, yay! Cheap fix, not

I go eat lunch then go back out and put the air-box in and finish up. I fire it up to turn it around as it got dropped off backwards into our garage and it starts making a loud squealing noise much like a belt slipping but coming from the transmission. When first put into gear it seems to try and pull then gives up as soon as I step on the gas.

If I shut it off and wait a few minutes, I can start it and put it into (any) gear right away and it will pull for a few moments then give up again as soon as I give it some gas.

The first invoice they gave us listed a "Less Steel Kit" (which later changed many times, anyways) so I'm pretty sure they just threw friction disks on the old steel plates.

I'm thinking maybe the P0741 was actually caused by low pressure that's caused by the internal filter being plugged up? (I read somewhere a plugged filter screen could cause the noise it is making?)

At this point I just want to get it moving as cheap as possible so we can drive it to the dealer for a trade in.

15 years and 400k+ miles ain’t bad I guess.

Re: BXMA Loud squealing noise

So, I finally watched the video in the stickied post at the top of this forum and that is the same exact sound I hear.

Now I just need to find some info on this "Tyler method". that is mentioned in that thread.
