Question White dried pasty substance on Clutch Master Cylinder?

Trying to diagnose why my slave cylinder isnt building up pressure. Poked my head down to look at the clutch master cylinder and theres this crusty white paste on it from inside.

Maybe its some kind of lubricant that just dried out? Any ideas?

Thanks!

Looks like old lithium grease to stop a squeaky clutch pedal
