Shift solenoid A/B
Shift solenoid A/B
I have a 2002 civic 1.7l non vtec automatic and I’m experiencing a delayed shift from 2nd to 3rd and the only sensor that hasn’t been replaced is the small shift solenoid A/B the triangle looking one. I replaced it with a rebuilt one and it shifts into drive but I lost reverse now. I put the old one back in and everything works fine minus the delayed shift. Could that solenoid be bad or are their two different type of sensors? My transmission is a BMXA.

Have any codes or a CEL on?
Honestly at this point I would not be spending on new pressure switches and/or shift solenoids. You most likely have clutch debris in the internal ATF screen, solenoids or orifices internal to the trans. The only thing you can do (barring you do not have a code for one of the shift solenoid circuits) is 4 times a drain and fill with Honda ATF DW-1 with driving between them to prolong the inevitable replacement or rebuild of the trans.
I personally spent a lot of money replacing solenoids and pressure switches on my Odyssey's 4-speed transmission when it was beginning to slip - did not make a difference and the trans eventually failed. I also had many drain and fills of Honda ATF over the years and again did not prevent the trans from clogging up inside and failing.

If you think a good mechanic is expensive, try hiring a bad one

delayed shift from 2nd to 3rd
That could be caused by a worn out 3rd clutch pack, if so it needs a trans rebuild or replacement.
