Trans issuses
I just bought a '97 Civic Ex non V-Tec, it has two fault codes P0700 and P0715, I took the car to the shop to diagnose the problem to see why the check engine light is on, the shop told me the trans is slipping and needs to be replaced.
What I would like to know is there anything I can do besides replacing the trans, I know that is the best thing to do.
Could I replace the trans oil and add a additive to prevent the trans from slipping and turning on the check engine light?

Main problem is code P0715.

I read the service bulletin, it says to drain, fill and run the trans on a lift to get the oil to flow through the trans.
Is there a drain plug on the torque converter?
Do I replace the solenoid during the first drain and fill procedure or when it is completed?
Should I add a stop slip additive to the trans?

Or drive it around. The idea is each time you refill, make the transmission work through all gears and TCC lockup to thoroughly circulate the new fluid before you drain it again.

By the way, the Z-1 mentioned in the bulletin is obsolete now. Hondas current ATF is labeled DW-1.
I have a hunch you will need a trans replacement before this is over.
Re: Trans issuses
when I drove the car it felt like it shifted through all the gears and didn't slip but with a snap-on scanner connected that is how the repair shop found the problem with the trans.
I'm trying to do what I can to get it to pass smog without having to spend the money for a trans.

Sure.
Can't promise a darn thing there.

Can use Valvoline Maxlife Full Synthetic..has seal conditioner as well.
Also can use Castol Multi-Vehicle Imports (including Honda)... no seal conditioner and Synthetic blend.
If all else fails (last resort before replacement) you can try this combo:
1) Seafoam Trans-tune to flush
2) 1 bottle of Lucas Stop Slip combined with ATF to proper level.
Will it work? Hell if I know..but, would like your transmission to be the guinea pig (if not repairable). Other than $20 you don't have much to lose.
