switching gear hesitation!?!?

I have been experiencing a frequent hesitation, where it feels like the car may stall out, or feels like the engine is not getting enough energy/gas, It only happens occasionally when switching into second or third gears. The only similar problem it feels like, is an issue when my original alternator went bad a couple years ago, but in this case it doesnt happen as often and does not feel not as severe. I was wondering if anyone has experienced this type of issue before. I have a 01' 5spd coupe EX vtec, with 68000 miles on it. I was thinking the problem could be fuel filter, spark plugs, clutch or alternator. any feedback would be most appreciated.

Have you ever changed the plugs? You might be surprised that they really DON'T last 100,000 miles.

Sounds like a tune up maybe in order. Do the air filter too. Good Luck

I have the exact same problem with my '05 (5sp, 22,000 miles). It's been doing it pretty much since the beginning. I used to think it was me getting used to the car, but I really don't think so anymore. I'm pretty confident my clutching skills are not to blame as I've been driving multiple standards for years. Those cars had well over 100,000 miles on the original clutch and didn't do this. The car has also developed some clutch chatter now.

Would anyone else have any suggestions? Surely the spark plugs aren't bad already

Thanks for all info and suggestions!

clutch chatter, interesting term. can you describe it to me? thats a perfect word for what im experiencing. when the car is cold (after sitting all night), when i shift from 1st to 2nd, or 2nd to 3rd, and let the clutch out slowly, it seems to studder as i give it gas. stops doing it once the car warms up (two or three stop lights later)

and as for the hesitation, it seems to only do it when shifting from 3rd to 4th, it seems as if im applying too much clutch but i know im not. it does it for a split second and never seems like its going to stall though, just feels like a sloppy shift every time. im also an experienced 5-speed driver.

05 SE w/ 23,500km.

That's sounds like what I'm experiencing. However, it doesn't necessarily go away when it warms up. It also doesn't do it every time. Sometimes I can repeat it, sometimes I can't.

Yup, my girlfriend said the same thing.

Hopefully someone has some insight.
