Is it just my car, or does anyone else notice the tranny dip stick is very loose? I would think if I hit the right bump the thing might fly out and wind up on the street or something. I changed my tranny fluid for the first time (It's been done before but I never did it) and that's when I noticed it. The dip stick kinda just sits there and doesn't feel like it seals anything.
Looking for ideas to seal it better. It seems like the dip stick isn't even the correct size. Maybe the Honda techs put the wrong one back in my car...
It wouldn't surprise me.

I have noticed the same thing. it isnt loose, but when you pull it out, it comes out really easy.
But like HappyGilmore said, it shouldnt ever come out if you hit any bumps

The fitting is black and it tapers off to where the metal dipstick enters into it. But even at the largest part of the tapered base it still just kinda sits in there, not very tight at all. I'm just afraid with a weak seal that dirt/dust can find it's way into my transmission. I would think Honda would make a tighter plug for this. Hey, maybe that's why I have so many tranny issues huh!
I might rig up something to make the plug fit a little better. Maybe some electrical tape wrapped around the top or something, who knows. Just another weekend project!

Tip:
Put one piece of electrical tape about six inches long and wrap it around the top or larger area of the black part and it fits snug like a glove! I tried this the other night. Now I have just the right amount of seal and it isn't loose at all.

Re: Tranny Dip Stick Not Tight...!
Why wouldn't anyone just spend the $11 for a new dipstick that will fit properly?
Oh, wait. That would be too easy.
They shrink the rubber over time.
By 100k, most fit loose.
Some even fall out and get lost.
Some people STILL won't buy a fresh one for $11.

And I don't know if you looked, but the people way above are complaining from 04 post when at most they may have had an 01 and it was 3 years old.
If they've improved the design on the dipstick or I just received a defective one, I will gladly spend the money to replace it.

Re: Tranny Dip Stick Not Tight...!
they have an updated part, it fits much tighter, but be sure you wipe the hole so that fluid doesnt get on the rubber and shrink it. if you want the super tight new feeling, you prolly need a new one every few yrs because rubber wears out. the old dipstick was a design flaw and loose from the factory.

WOW, blast from the past.
Electrical tape and ATF fluid may not make for a good combination though.
Yes, 7th gens get the improved part # for tighter fit.

Re: Tranny Dip Stick Not Tight...!
The stealer ship had one in stock. The fit is a night and day difference.
You lied ezone. You said it would be $11, it was $14. I broke the bank LOL
.
Anyway, I attached a picture for comparison.

Yeah, I F'n lied to you.
The REAL MSRP is $10.52 (USD) for part # 25610-PLX-003. http://www.hondaautomotiveparts.com/...EEDOMETER+GEAR
Now then: Is your state tax around 34%, or does your dealer charge that much for the privilege of setting your dirty feet inside their fabulous building?
It's still dirt cheap IMO.

I was just messing with you about the lying to me thing. I knew it was going to be more expensive than the standard MSRP if I bought it here in Hawaii from the dealership.
Most of the time I use Majestic because about 90% of the time it is cheaper even with shipping and sales tax. In this case, the dealer ship was cheaper. It would have cost me $20 and change with shipping and tax from majestic.
Glad someone chimed in up the updated part because it fits like a glove now.

Re: Tranny Dip Stick Not Tight...!
For everyone else reading: Dealers are free to set their own prices. MSRP is only a "Suggested Retail Price".
Decent dealers you might bargain down to real MSRP if you already know what that number really is.

It wouldn't surprise me.the cheapest and fastest route I can go ..just need to get it fixed asap
Re: Tranny Dip Stick Not Tight...!
So, just found this old thread, and wanted to ask about my tranny fluid leak. Could fluid be leaking/seeping/jumping from that loose plug or must it be coming from seepage from the seals on the tranny case itself? I found pink fluid on the bottom of my case.
