Cooling issues/temp sensor question
Cooling issues/temp sensor question
I've got an 05 EX, (i read the sticky on overheating too, but I've got a couple more questions) and over the last week it's been overheating sporadically. At first it only ran hot at low rpms and low speeds, if you revved it a bit, the temp went down. At the same time, heat wouldn't work at low revs, but would at higher. Now the heat never works, the car is almost constantly way over temp, but the cooling fans don't kick in. One of my questions is if the sensor that feeds the gauge and the sensor that feeds the fan relay is the same sensor or not, and to add that even at really high operating temp, the upper hose is hot and pressurized and the lower is, mostly, colder and limp. The overflow has been filling and overfilling/spilling onto the fans. I'm thinking and hoping it's only a t-stat since the car only has 73k miles and has, for the most part, been treated nicely. Any ideas? Thanks!

Head gasket.
Overflowing reserve/overflow tank is a tell tale sign.
Do a search for blown head gaskets.

Re: Cooling issues/temp sensor question
most likely a head gasket....
you could try changing the thermostat and rad cap first (USE OEM HONDA PARTS)....its not likely going to help, but no harm in changing them anyway after 7 years

I just drove it again, and this time it didnt go above 2/3 - 3/4 H and when cycling, the heat would lead the gauge by about 10 seconds. Again rpm independent.
If you think a good mechanic is expensive, try hiring a bad one

Re: Cooling issues/temp sensor question
Keep the dang radiator full before you ruin the engine and cost yourself far more than it was already going to cost for the head gasket job alone.
I bet the head is already warped.
