I purchased the car with no key fob(s). It will not go into programming mode following the turn ignition on, press lock on fob, turn ignition off method, repeat. I have tried multiple times and different variations. I am also trying with an OEM Honda key fob, and an aftermarket fob, both no luck.

During research, I found a thread with an individual of a similar issue. Within the thread, it stated that the driver switch unit may need to be reset as it is linked to the keyless entry. This makes sense as being an issue because my automatic windows do not work. With that being said, after following the window switch reset procedure(s). My windows switch will not reset to automatically go up/down.

Ultimately, I just want my car to go into program mode so my key fob will work. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
Did you ever resolve this? My 2002 Civic Si has one working remote; it WILL NOT go into remote programming remote, no way, no how. I've tried with the extra remote I ordered and with the current working remote. Has to be some "trick"...

Re: Car will not enter programming mode (Hatch Si)

moved out of previous thread - Si hatch are veeeeeeeeery different from an LX model, so don't use that as an example.
You are just gonna get even more confused than you are now.
When searching, look specifically for Si (in US, SiR in Canada) and hatch.

This is from the service manual. Is this how you were programming?

Thanks, I did all that - several times. Never entered programming mode. I even tried it with the working remote; still never entered programming mode.

I would suggest testing the remote receiver. There are troubleshooting steps in the service manual but it would be difficult to share.

I also cannot remember where I found this free download.

Here is what the service manual says:

Then there are more tests, all aimed at determining whether a fuse is blown, a wire isn't connected, or the transmitter is out. Since mine passes this first test I assume the transmitter is good. Also I can stand fifty feet away and set off the panic alarm.

The programming instructions mention the door lock cycling after the fourth time. However, on my car, the door lock does nothing if the key is in the ignition.

Bottom line, I think the transmitter is good, but there is some Si-specific "trick" for programming a remote. Either that or I have a weak or bad fob. I returned it to Amazon and ordered a Dorman, I'll try that when it gets here.

Re: Car will not enter programming mode (Hatch Si)

So I found the "trick": Start out with a good remote. The Dorman remote I ordered came in and I was able to program it, no problem. I don't know why the working fob wouldn't put the transmitter into programming mode. I spoke with the guy who sold me the car; he said, "No wonder, that one's a cheap POS that I got from Amazon for five bucks."

Yes, cheap key fobs are junk. The one I have for my CRV only picks up every few presses.

well, at the least it was not the "chassis" ECU (forgot its name, too lazy to look for it) - costs a lot more
