Replaced Gauge Cluster, SRS Light Now On
Replaced Gauge Cluster, SRS Light Now On
Hello everyone.
My speedometer on my 2005 sedan EX auto broke 5-7 years ago, and yesterday I went to the junkyard and pulled a speedo from a 2003 sedan LX auto. The car was in a minor frontal collision but the airbags had not deployed (mustve been like a 5-10mph collison). Unfortunately I was stupid and didn't unplug the battery when doing the cluster swap, and now even after putting the original cluster back in the SRS light stays on. I took the car to autozone and they werent able to get an OB2 reading even after waiting 2-3 mins. I tried the ob2 reading with the new-to-me cluster plugged in and no cluster plugged in. I shouldve brought the original cluster to try as well... Did I blow something important??
I was wondering what I should do from here, if I reset the SRS system like ive seen on this forum by shorting those two plugs will that damage the system? And will the code come back if there truly is a problem? I thought maybe the issue is just because the LX didn't have side airbags, but even after putting in the original cluster the SRS light stays on.
Thanks for your time.

Re: Replaced Gauge Cluster, SRS Light Now On
You can read the SRS code at home. Just takes a bit of finagling and paying attention to blinking lights

As far as resetting the SRS code by doing the plug/unplug/key on/off dance, shouldn't hurt anything. If it's a locked in/active code, the SRS light will come right back on

Re: Replaced Gauge Cluster, SRS Light Now On
UPDATE: I was worried I would mess something up doing this stuff on my own, so I let the dealer handle it. They said that it was just a code because the circuit was interrupted (by me taking out the cluster without disconnecting the battery). A reset fixed the airbag system. PSA: DISCONNECT BATTERY WHEN DOING ELECTRICAL MODIFICATIONS!!
