hello, i am in really need to fix my car asap. i have to replace the head gasket but i dont have a straight edge bar to check for warping (head and block). after shopping everywhere around, the only similar thing i found is a straight edge ruler from Home Depot. could i do the job with it or just need to get a bar?. thanks in advance.

Yeah just get it checked at a shop, it's not very expensive, and if it does need to be decked, checking it is part of the service

How bad/long was it overheating? Pretty rare for the block to warp. You can order a straight edge from amazon

not for long, because as soon as i see the gauge climbing i shut it off. i know i can order it from Amazon but my problem is the waiting time. i cant wait till next week to get it.

You'll just have to gamble on the block then, definitely take the head in
