Grinding noise when starting and then goes away

Hello, I have a civic automatic 1.7 vtec and all this happened like 7/8 months ago, but I’ve been driving like normal… ok
when doing the first start not problems only a grinding noise coming from the starter/flexplate area, I think so and it goes away after 10 seconds. Then I started again and the noise it’s not there, only when is the first crack. I’ve read about the starter, since mine has the original and has 150k miles but I was scared reading that can be the flexplate attached to the converter that can be broken… but I don’t know how bad is and why it didn’t have broke completely since I’ve been driving for months all days. And same noise, it hasn’t increase or decrease

I’ll be removing the starter in check with my hand if there’s play inside de flexplate unit… also I’ll be testing with other starter…
any advise?

Sounds like a sticking starter. Does it happen every cold start?

it’s only when in the morning or when the car is been parked for 7 hours or so… I think if that was the flexplate, the car wouldn’t work properly or when accelerating it wouldn’t respond, but that’s not my case… also it’s the original starter and I can’t imagine if the plate was broken couldn’t even make too many months running perfect like I’ve been doing.

Re: Grinding noise when starting and then goes away

I have never heard of a Honda flex plate breaking, so I don't think that's your issue.

Probably the starter hanging up. Might be able to clean it, smack it around, and then throw it back in.
