D17a2 Rebuild Question/help
D17a2 Rebuild Question/help
I've had my 7th gen civic for about a year now and its been burning oil ever since. I've ignored the problem as long as I could. It was manageable since it only burned about half a quart every 2 ish weeks but Its gotten so bad these past few days. I topped off my oil less then a week ago and I go to check the dipstick and its way blow the bottom mark. I checked for leaks and there was none so I think its just getting so bad I can no longer ignore it. I'm 17 and this is my first car, I love it and its a good car, it runs well, the transmission is really good, the only thing that is bad is the oil consumption. I love this car and I want to keep it for a while so I think the best route for me to go is an engine rebuild. So new pistons and rings, valve stems and seals. Take it to a machine shop to resurface both the block and head and redo the groves in the cylinder walls. I was just wondering roughly how much it would cost me to do this job assuming I do everything myself besides the machine work. the parts I'd get would be the pistons, rings, MAYBE also connecting rods and end caps, and stuff for the head that would be needed to replace ( i dont know the exact parts id need to replace for the head ). Any rough estimate or other recommendations would be appreciated before I go down this route .I'm going to give it a week or two to see if the burning calms down or if I really do have a leak somewhere.

Should only need to replace rings and bearings. However it's going to be a lot cheaper and quicker to just dump an engine in it.

Re: D17a2 Rebuild Question/help
Blue = burning oil
Black = burning excess fuel (think of the rolling coal morons)
White = burning coolant (unless its cold out, then its just water vapour, with stop once exhaust is hot)
