D17A oil pan gasket

I have a EM2 with a D17A, the oil pan gasket seems to be leaking a little, and I want to replace the gasket, does it use the same gasket as D17A1 or D17A2 or a something else? Also I think a few of the bolts are half stripped (possibly why its leaking), could anyone confirm that they are M6x1.0 threads if I need to Helicoil them?

Re: D17A oil pan gasket

? unsure if D17A have steel pan? It is supposed to be VTEC engine (similar to D17A2, which have aluminum pan)

If true, good for us to know, thanks

As far as I know, no one would have replaced/switched the pan. (Though I think the previous owner might have partly stripped the bolts, so they might have been doing something in the area). It is a stamped pan, which magnet holds on. And the engine has VTEC solenoid and is marked D17A. My understanding also was that D17A was pretty much a D17A2, with just a touch tighter head to increase compression. But I wouldn't know what would be different about any of their bottom ends to need a different pan. Just saw when I looked at parts that there was a divide
I am about to switch out my front struts, so can get some pictures while I have it up.

Re: D17A oil pan gasket

nah, the D17A is a Japanese market engine, commonly used to replace the engines here.
Just did not know it had a steel pan instead of the aluminum.

Re: D17A oil pan gasket

While you're in there, it's a very good idea to replace the O-ring behind the oil pump. A little extra work, but worth it.
And not really answered, but the steel pan gets a gasket and the aluminum pan gets RTV.

I have a 2005 civic ex special edition with an aluminum oil pan.

I just now put on the oil pan with a gasket and some permatex aviation rvt on both sides of the rubber gasket.

Did i just F up... or is this going to be ok. I read here that the aluminum pan goes on with rtv only. So now im wishing i knew this before now.
I was simply looking for the torque procedures here.
I hand tightend the bolts on the pan at least 2 x now. Each time i can tighten them a little more. so I was trying to see if i go for the 12nm spec in the cross alternating fashion straight off.
thanks for any help.

Re: D17A oil pan gasket

might wanna pull the oil pan and get rid of the rubber gasket. The d17a2 oil pan uses only RTV as a gasket.

Better to do it right than regret it later.

Re: D17A oil pan gasket

Definitely get rid of the gasket when you have a aluminum oil pan, and use RTV only.

I used (RTV only) the grey Right Stuff and it sealed up great. It says 90 min setup time but I let it sit overnight.
