D17a2 head swap on a d17a
Hello guys my car unfortunately got trash stuck inside the timing belt and cause my car to loose it’s compression since then I have been trying to swap a new head in but I wasn’t sure where to start could I possible swap In a regular d17a2 head on the jdm d17a? Also if I rip out a clean head off a junkyard civic would I have to resurface the head or would it not be warped? Just asking before I get started I’m just looking for some insight !

for the work required, I would send to a shop to check.
Re: D17a2 head swap on a d17a
oh because my serpentine belt tore and it burned up my timing belt cover and knocked the timing out of place so I forsure have bent valves
Re: D17a2 head swap on a d17a
it’s my Own car and no the car hasn’t overheated or had an head gasket issues forsake and I just don’t know if taking the head off will cause unevenness because I need to replace some bent valves
Timing belt jumped
So unfortunately my 7gen d17a jumped the timing. It all started when the serpentine belt tore and shredded the timing belt cover and knocked it out of time. Car doesn’t start so I’m pretty sure I have some bent valves and I was wondering if I should rip a d17a2 head off a junk yard and re time the car or will my car have issues and just replace the whole motor instead. Motor has around 100 thousand miles

He was more referring to the junkyard head. Either way, whichever head you decide to use, I'd still take it to a machine shop to, at the very least, make sure it's flat. Last thing you want to do is install a head that's warped like .004" and have to re-do the job.
What I did was (having a spare engine laying around), was take the head from the spare engine, dropped it off at a machine shop to check for flatness, and, if warped out of spec (and yes, that .004" is the figure they told me it was warped), have them deck the head. While it was at the shop, I was taking apart the engine in my car and otherwise preparing for the head swap.
Shop called, let me know what they found and did (.004" out of spec, decked it, hot tanked it to clean it up). I picked up head, got home, and was able to drop that sucker in right away

Oh okay got it so what about the block do you think I would need it decked as well or Neh since I didn’t experience overheating or a blown gasket and also how much would a machine shop charge?
Re: Car does no accelerate
Any busted sensors, or electronics I would replace with new. If they are cracked or damaged and magic leaks out of them, there's RTVing it or putting the magic back in. If its a expensive part you might be able to find a used certified/refurbished replacement. I would replace any wiring that is (possible) damaged in the area too.
I did a timing belt on my 2002 EX D17A, and had a good bit of trouble finding a lower timing cover (hopefully) they are back in stock and easily available. I got mine off Amazon, but only one of the three listings I found actually had the right part.
